Libra season doesn't begin on a fixed calendar day. It starts the moment the Sun reaches 0° Libra — the September equinox, which slips about six hours later each year, then jumps back a day at each leap year. That's why in recent years it has started on September 22 or 23 in UTC, and a day either side in some time zones.

Where Libra season falls in the year

Libra season begins at the exact moment of the September equinox — the instant the Sun crosses the celestial equator heading south and reaches 0° Libra. The two are one event seen two ways: astronomers call it the equinox, astrologers call it the start of Libra season.

It opens the second half of the astrological year, exactly opposite Aries. Day and night are close to equal everywhere on Earth; in the Northern Hemisphere it's the start of autumn, in the Southern the start of spring — and 0° Libra in both.

Like Aries, Cancer and Capricorn, Libra is a cardinal sign: it begins a quarter of the year, which is why astrologers read its season as a time to start relationships and agreements, not just to keep them.

What Libra season actually is

For about thirty days the Sun travels through the seventh thirty degrees of the zodiac — the sign of Libra, ruled by Venus. It's the backdrop of the month for everyone. Libra is an air sign associated with relationships, fairness, beauty, diplomacy and weighing one thing against another.

In plain terms, it's the month to meet other people halfway — to restore balance, make fair agreements and notice where your life tips too far one way.

What to expect during Libra season

Cooperation tends to come more easily this month: partnerships, negotiations, collaborations, making peace. It's a good time to sign agreements, redecorate, and give attention to the people closest to you. What's harder is deciding — weighing every side can leave you stuck in the middle. None of that is a rule. If a relationship needs rebalancing, Libra season is a fair time to talk about it.

Libra season FAQ

When exactly does Libra season start?

Libra season begins the instant the Sun reaches 0° Libra — the same moment as the September equinox. In recent years that has fallen on September 22 or 23 in UTC, and a day either side in some time zones; the table above shows the exact time in your own zone. It then runs about 30 days, until the Sun enters Scorpio around October 22 or 23.

Why does the date change every year?

Because it is tied to the Sun's exact position, not the calendar. Earth's orbit isn't a whole number of days, so the moment the Sun reaches 0° Libra drifts about six hours later each year, then jumps back roughly a day when a leap year adds February 29. That's why Libra season doesn't start on the same date every year.

Is Libra season the same as the autumn equinox?

They are the same moment. The September equinox is the instant the Sun crosses the celestial equator heading south, which is also 0° Libra — the start of Libra season. It's the autumn equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the spring equinox in the Southern.

Does Libra season affect me if I'm not a Libra?

Yes — it's the backdrop for everyone, not only Libra Suns. For about a month the Sun sits in one house of your chart and lights up that area of life. Which house depends on your rising sign; the table above maps it for all twelve.

What's the difference between Libra season and Libra the sign?

Libra the sign is a 30° slice of the zodiac and, for some people, where their Sun, Moon or rising sits. Libra season is simply the month or so each year when the Sun is travelling through that slice — a timing, not a birth placement.
