Understand Your Birth Chart

Learning how to read your birth chart starts with one idea: every planet is described by three things — the sign it sits in, the house it falls in and its exact degree. MoonX turns each of those positions into a plain-language reading. Tap any planet in the wheel to see one.

Sun in Scorpio

28°15'21" · 12th House

As a Scorpio, you are represented by two animals, the eagle and the scorpion, symbolizing the mastery over one's passions and the sensual world. You possess traits such as ambition, efficiency, courage, resourcefulness, and intuition. However, you may also struggle with jealousy, sarcasm, resentment, stubbornness, possessiveness, and vindictiveness. You enjoy challenging tasks that require intense concentration and possess a strong will and determination to achieve your goals.

What Each Planet Means in Your Birth Chart

Each planet governs one department of life, and each moves at its own speed — which is exactly why some placements feel deeply personal and others belong to a whole generation.

Tropical, Sidereal and Astronomical — Why Your Sign Can Differ

The tropical vs sidereal question comes down to one thing: what you measure a sign against. All three systems below divide the same sky — they just start counting from different places, so they can hand you different answers to “what's my sign”, and none of them is a calculation error.

A lot of people ask, why is my sidereal sign different from the one I grew up with? Because the constellations have drifted against the calendar over the last two thousand years, while the tropical dates stayed pinned to the seasons.

SystemWhat it measuresWill your Sun sign change?Mainly used by
TropicalPosition from the spring equinoxNo — this is the defaultWestern astrology
SiderealPosition against the real constellationsUsually — often the previous signVedic / Jyotish astrology
AstronomicalThe actual IAU constellation boundariesOften, and by a variable amountAstronomers, not astrologers

Whole Sign vs Placidus is the same argument moved from signs to houses: do you split the sky by whole signs, or by the geometry of your exact birth moment?

Not sure what house system you should use? Start with the default, then switch systems above and watch your chart redraw both ways.

What Your Birth Chart Says About You

Signs are the how, planets are the what

A planet is a function of your psyche — how you think, how you love, how you act. The sign it sits in is the style that function runs in. Mercury is thinking; Mercury in Aries thinks fast and blunt, Mercury in Libra weighs every side. Same planet, different voice.

Houses are the where

The twelve houses are the areas of life — money, home, work, relationships — where a planet actually shows up. A house is decided by the exact time and place you were born, which is why the birth time matters: without it the wheel has planets and signs, but no houses, Ascendant or Midheaven.

Aspects are the conversation

Aspects are the angles between planets — the conversation your chart has with itself. Some angles are easy and reinforcing, others are tense and demanding. Together they show which parts of your character cooperate and which ones argue, and that friction is often where the growth is.
