Aries season doesn't begin on a fixed calendar day. It starts the moment the Sun reaches 0° Aries — the March equinox, which slips about six hours later each year, then jumps back a day at each leap year. That's why in recent years it has started on March 20 in UTC, and a day either side in some time zones.

Where Aries season falls in the year

Aries season begins at the exact moment of the spring equinox — the instant the Sun crosses the celestial equator heading north and reaches 0° Aries. The two are one event seen two ways: astronomers call it the equinox, astrologers call it the start of Aries season.

That shared moment is why many astrologers treat this as the start of the astrological year. The calendar year begins on an arbitrary date, January 1; the astrological year begins when the zodiac itself resets to its first degree, and all twelve seasons that follow are measured from here.

South of the equator this same instant is the autumn equinox rather than spring, but the astrological year is still counted from 0° Aries just the same.

What Aries season actually is

For about thirty days from late March, the Sun travels through the first thirty degrees of the zodiac — the sign of Aries. This isn't about people born under Aries; it's the shared backdrop of the month for everyone. The wheel has come full circle and started again at its first sign, the one associated with beginnings, initiative and a certain forward lean. Whether you feel that as a push or barely notice it is up to you — we won't promise the fire of Aries will fill you with strength.

In plain terms it's the opening chapter of the astrological year: a natural moment to start rather than finish, to point at something and move toward it.

What to expect during Aries season

Beginnings tend to come more easily than endings this month. Starting a project, making a first move, saying the thing out loud — all a little more available than usual. What's harder is patience: waiting, refining, sitting with something unresolved. None of this is a rule, and nothing here says what you can't do. If you've been circling a decision, this is a fair time to take the first concrete step — just expect the follow-through to need the quieter seasons that come after.

Aries season FAQ

When exactly does Aries season start?

Aries season begins the instant the Sun reaches 0° Aries — the same moment as the March equinox. In recent years that has fallen on March 20 in UTC, and a day either side in some time zones; the table above shows the exact time in your own zone. It then runs about 30 days, until the Sun enters Taurus around April 19 or 20.

Why does the date change every year?

Because it is tied to the Sun's exact position, not the calendar. Earth's orbit isn't a whole number of days, so the moment the Sun reaches 0° Aries drifts about six hours later each year, then jumps back roughly a day when a leap year adds February 29. That's why Aries season doesn't start on the same date every year.

Is Aries season the same as the spring equinox?

They are the same moment. The spring equinox is the instant the Sun crosses the celestial equator heading north, which is also 0° Aries — the start of Aries season. The equinox names the astronomy; Aries season names the month that follows. South of the equator that instant is the autumn equinox instead.

Does Aries season affect me if I'm not an Aries?

Yes — it's the backdrop for everyone, not only Aries Suns. For about a month the Sun sits in one house of your chart and lights up that area of life. Which house depends on your rising sign; the table above maps it for all twelve.

What's the difference between Aries season and Aries the sign?

Aries the sign is a 30° slice of the zodiac and, for some people, where their Sun, Moon or rising sits. Aries season is simply the month or so each year when the Sun is travelling through that slice — a timing, not a birth placement.
