The Aries New Moon drifts by almost a month across these years — from late March to mid-April — because twelve lunar months come to about eleven days less than a calendar year. Each year it falls about eleven days earlier, then jumps forward a whole lunar month, and it lands at a slightly different degree every time, so the exact spot is never repeated.
When an Aries New Moon is also an eclipse
A New Moon becomes a solar eclipse when it falls close to one of the Moon's nodes — the points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's. When that happens the Moon passes in front of the Sun — wholly or in part — and the lunation carries far more weight than an ordinary one.
Two of the most recent Aries New Moons were exactly this: the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 and the partial solar eclipse of March 29, 2025. They are flagged in the table above. The next one is the total solar eclipse of March 30, 2033.
Astrologers tend to treat an eclipse differently from a normal New Moon: it's read as fated and out of your hands, a time to watch what arrives rather than to plant intentions in the usual way. For the dates of this year and the next, see the eclipses on the events calendar.
What a New Moon in Aries actually is
A New Moon is the Moon and Sun meeting at the same degree — here, the same degree of Aries — with the Moon lost in the Sun's glare, invisible for a night. It's the start of a fresh lunar cycle, and because Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, this is the one New Moon a year where the start of the lunar month lines up with the start of the whole circle: a clean first page. It isn't about people with Aries placements — it's the shared backdrop of a night for everyone.
Whether you feel it as a surge of initiative or barely notice it is up to you; we won't promise a portal.
What to set in motion on the Aries New Moon
A New Moon is for beginnings rather than conclusions — the opposite of the Full Moon two weeks later. In Aries the pull is to act, to go first, to start before you feel fully ready. It's a natural moment to take the first concrete step on something you want to lead: send the first message, open the blank document, make the call. None of this is compulsory and nothing is off-limits. If you keep a new-moon practice, this is a strong one for it — see intentions below.
Intentions on an Aries New Moon
Writing intentions at the New Moon is a practice many readers already keep: a short list of what you want to begin, set down while the cycle is fresh. In Aries the tradition is to keep them short and active — verbs, not descriptions.
One concrete tip: start every line with “I begin…” or “I start…” rather than “I want…”. Aries responds to the first move, not the wish — “I begin training three mornings a week” beats “I want to get fitter.”

Aries New Moon FAQ
When exactly is the New Moon in Aries?
It's an exact moment, not a day: the Moon catches up with the Sun at the same degree of Aries and goes dark. The next one is on April 6, 2027 at 23:51 UTC, at 16°57′ Aries — the table above shows the time in your own zone. The Moon stays hidden for a night or two around it.
Why is it in a different month each year?
The lunar month is about 29.5 days, so twelve of them come to about 354 days — roughly eleven days short of a calendar year. The Aries New Moon therefore lands about eleven days earlier each year, then jumps forward a whole lunar month. That's how it drifts from late March to mid-April across the years above, at a new degree each time.
Why was the 2025 Aries New Moon an eclipse?
Because it fell close to one of the Moon's nodes, so the Moon covered part of the Sun from parts of the Earth: the partial solar eclipse of March 29, 2025. A New Moon only becomes an eclipse when it lands near a node, which is why most don't.
Can I still set intentions during an eclipse?
You can, but many astrologers suggest waiting. Eclipses are read as fated and outside your control — better observed than seeded. A regular New Moon is the traditional time for intentions; if this one is an eclipse, some people simply note what arrives and set intentions at the next ordinary lunation instead.
What's the difference between an Aries New Moon and Aries season?
The New Moon is a single moment — the Moon and Sun meeting at one degree of Aries. Aries season is the whole month or so the Sun spends crossing Aries. The New Moon always falls inside Aries season, but they're different scales: one instant versus one month.
What does a New Moon in Aries mean if I'm not an Aries?
It's the backdrop for everyone. This New Moon opens one house of your chart — the area of life where a fresh cycle can begin; which house depends on your rising sign. The table above maps it for all twelve.
Is there an Aries New Moon every year?
Almost always one, but not always: between 2016 and 2036, two fall in 2023. Twelve lunar months fall about eleven days short of a year, so the dates slide — and now and then two New Moons in a row both land in Aries, a month apart.
