The Aquarius New Moon drifts by almost a month across these years — from late January to mid-February — because twelve lunar months come to about eleven days less than a calendar year. Each year it falls about eleven days earlier, then jumps forward a whole lunar month, and it lands at a slightly different degree every time, so the exact spot is never repeated.

When an Aquarius New Moon is also an eclipse

A New Moon becomes a solar eclipse when it falls close to one of the Moon's nodes — the points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's. When that happens the Moon passes in front of the Sun — wholly or in part — and the lunation carries far more weight than an ordinary one.

One of the most recent Aquarius New Moons was exactly this: the annular solar eclipse of February 17, 2026. It is flagged in the table above. The next one is the annular solar eclipse of February 6, 2027, also in the table.

Astrologers tend to treat an eclipse differently from a normal New Moon: it's read as fated and out of your hands, a time to watch what arrives rather than to plant intentions in the usual way. For the dates of this year and the next, see the eclipses on the events calendar.

What a New Moon in Aquarius actually is

A New Moon is the Moon and Sun meeting at the same degree — here, the same degree of Aquarius — with the Moon lost in the Sun's glare, invisible for a night. It's the start of a fresh lunar cycle, and with the Sun and Moon meeting in the sign of friendship, groups and the long view, it tends to begin by looking outward — at the people you share a future with. It isn't about people with Aquarius placements — it's the shared backdrop of a night for everyone.

Whether you feel it as the spark of an idea or barely notice it is up to you; we won't promise the future arrives early.

What to set in motion on the Aquarius New Moon

New Moons are for opening chapters, and Aquarius tends to open them with other people in mind. What appeals is the experimental and the collective: trying the unusual approach, showing up rather than spectating, starting a project that only makes sense if others join in. Concrete first moves work — sign up for the meetup, start the shared document, message the person whose idea you liked. You don't have to do any of it. If intentions are part of your practice, there's an Aquarius approach further down.

Intentions on an Aquarius New Moon

Aquarius intentions tend to work best when they include someone besides you. The sign is about networks and the future, so astrologers often suggest writing at least one intention that serves a group, a friendship or a principle — alongside the personal ones, not instead of them.

A practical tip: write one intention as if it's already a habit shared with others. “I host a monthly skill swap with three friends” is more Aquarian than “I want to be more social” — specific, a little unusual, and built to include people.

Aquarius New Moon FAQ

When exactly is the New Moon in Aquarius?

It's an exact moment, not a day: the Moon catches up with the Sun at the same degree of Aquarius and goes dark. The next one is on February 6, 2027 at 15:55 UTC, at 17°38′ Aquarius — the table above shows the time in your own zone. The Moon stays hidden for a night or two around it.

Why is it in a different month each year?

The lunar month is about 29.5 days, so twelve of them come to about 354 days — roughly eleven days short of a calendar year. The Aquarius New Moon therefore lands about eleven days earlier each year, then jumps forward a whole lunar month. That's how it drifts from late January to mid-February across the years above, at a new degree each time.

Why was the 2026 Aquarius New Moon an eclipse?

Because it fell close to one of the Moon's nodes, so the Moon crossed the middle of the Sun, leaving a ring of light from parts of the Earth: the annular solar eclipse of February 17, 2026. A New Moon only becomes an eclipse when it lands near a node, which is why most don't.

Can I still set intentions during an eclipse?

You can, but many astrologers suggest waiting. Eclipses are read as fated and outside your control — better observed than seeded. A regular New Moon is the traditional time for intentions; if this one is an eclipse, some people simply note what arrives and set intentions at the next ordinary lunation instead.

What's the difference between an Aquarius New Moon and Aquarius season?

The New Moon is a single moment — the Moon and Sun meeting at one degree of Aquarius. Aquarius season is the whole month or so the Sun spends crossing Aquarius. The New Moon always falls inside Aquarius season, but they're different scales: one instant versus one month.

What does a New Moon in Aquarius mean if I'm not an Aquarius?

It's the backdrop for everyone. This New Moon opens one house of your chart — the area of life where a fresh cycle can begin; which house depends on your rising sign. The table above maps it for all twelve.

Is there an Aquarius New Moon every year?

Yes — one in every year from 2016 to 2036. The New Moon moves on by roughly a sign a month, so it comes back to Aquarius about once a year; the date shifts, but the count holds.
