Chicken and Waffles…Really?

There are certain things in life that sound completely ridiculous the first time you hear them. Chicken and waffles is one of them.
At some point, a human being looked at fried chicken and thought: “You know what this needs? Breakfast bread and syrup.”
And somehow, against all logic and probably several concerned family members, it worked. Perfectly. Sweet and salty. Crispy and soft.Comforting and chaotic. A complete identity crisis on a plate. And honestly, life feels a lot like that sometimes.
Most people spend years trying to organize themselves into neat little categories.
Be strong, but not emotional. Be ambitious, but not tired. Be spiritual, but practical.Be disciplined, but relaxed.
Humans love separating things. We label everything as if life is supposed to fit into tidy containers when it clearly does not. Meanwhile the universe is over here putting syrup on fried chicken and somehow creating magic. Because some of the best things in life are combinations that should not work together… but do.
The strongest people are often incredibly gentle. The wisest people usually got that way because life humbled them repeatedly.
Healing often arrives carrying both grief and gratitude at the same time. And maybe the parts of ourselves we keep trying to separate were never supposed to be enemies in the first place.
The practical side and the creative side. The exhausted side and the hopeful side.
The protector and the dreamer. The person who survived and the person who still wants more.
People spend so much time trying to remove pieces of themselves in order to become easier to explain. Less emotional. Less intense. Less complicated.
But wholeness rarely comes from becoming less. It comes from integration. From allowing seemingly opposite things to exist together without forcing one side to disappear.
Nature does this constantly: Storms create new growth. Fire clears space for renewal. Pressure forms diamonds.
Life itself seems very comfortable with contradiction. Humans are the ones panicking over it while eating chicken and waffles and pretending unlikely combinations are unnatural. Which is honestly incredible behavior when you think about it.
Maybe peace and ambition can coexist. Maybe softness is not weakness.
Maybe structure and creativity belong together. Maybe healing is not about becoming a different person.
Maybe it is about finally allowing all the parts of yourself to sit at the same table.
A Few Quiet Reflections
This week, instead of asking: “What part of me needs to change?”
Try asking: “What parts of me have been trying to work together all along?”
Maybe what feels like contradiction is actually balance. And maybe there is far more room in life for unlikely harmony than we were ever taught to believe. Because sometimes life is less about finding perfect answers and more about realizing the strange combinations were the point all along.
Like chicken and waffles. Completely unreasonable.
And somehow exactly right.
