Bigger than the Moment

Everyone talks about finding peace.

I’m not talking about the kind you manifest, journal about, or convince yourself you have.

I’m talking about the kind that shows up when someone pushes every button you’ve got… and you have every right to lose your sh*t……but you don’t.

Not because you’re stuffing it down. Not because you’re afraid.

Because somewhere along the way you realized your peace is worth more than proving your point. I’m not saying I’m perfect - far from it. What I am saying is that when I mess up, I own it. I’ll fix it. But I won’t own things that don’t belong to me. Period.

That trigger? It’s temporary.

The words they said? Temporary.

The frustration? Temporary.

Who you become because of it….That’s the part that stays.

I’ve learned that peace isn’t the absence of chaos. It’s knowing that chaos doesn’t get to decide who I become. I’ve also learned to deflect the things that used to shrink me and belittle me, and to recognize that the ones hurling the pain have no idea on how to handle their own.

That’s strength.

Not winning the argument. Not getting even.

Not making sure they know exactly how wrong they were.

Just standing there… breathing… remembering who the hell you are.

The next you find yourself in a situation that starts to go sideways or the next time something pushes you right to the edge, don’t answer. Don’t hit send. Don’t react.

Walk away for five minutes - just five minutes.

Take a breath.

Then ask yourself…

“Who do I want to be when this moment is over?”

Remember, you get to choose you - not the situation, not the circumstances and definitely not the person or event that’s in front of you. Decide who you want to be and then, be that person. Every single time. Because in the end, you win!
