What 18 Hours of Daylight Actually Does
Litha gets celebrated as the longest day of the year, and most of what gets written about it stays mythological: sun gods, fire festivals, peak light as a spiritual idea. All of that's worth honoring. But the longest day is also doing something very real and very measurable to every living thing outside your window, and as someone who spends as much time in a wetland or a rehab enclosure as I do reading mythology, I wanted to sit with the actual biology of it for a minute.
