The Samhain Portal: When the Veil Between Worlds Becomes Thinner
Article · 3 min read ·

Between October 31 and November 2, according to Celtic and spiritual traditions, the portal of Samhain opens, the ancient origin of what we now know as Halloween and the Day of the Dead.
🌒 The Samhain Portal: When the Veil Between Worlds Grows Thinner
They say there is one night a year when time stands still.
One where the air grows denser, dreams more vivid,
and memories seem to speak from the other side.
It is the night when the ancients lit bonfires to guide lost souls,
and the fire became a bridge between worlds.
That night is called Samhain — the threshold between the end and the beginning.
🌑 The Closing of the Solar Cycle
Samhain marks the end of the Celtic year.
It is the time when nature withdraws,
leaves fall, and the Earth prepares for its winter rest.
It is not just a season: it is a reminder.
Just as the forest sheds its leaves,
we too must release what has fulfilled its purpose.
It is time to look inward,
to give thanks for what has been lived and allow part of us
to "die" symbolically, so that something new can be born.
🌱 In the fertile darkness of the soul, the seed of the next cycle begins to form.
🔥 When the veil dissolves
During Samhain, it is said that the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds becomes thinner.
That is why many cultures celebrate these days honoring their dead:
the Celts with bonfires,
the Mexicans with altars,
the Andeans with ritual tables,
the Europeans with candles in windows.
It is no coincidence.
We all remember, deep down, that honoring death is also honoring life.
Samhain is not a time of fear,
but of communion: with ancestors, with memories,
and with the parts of ourselves we have left behind.
🌕 Rituals to cross the portal
You can take advantage of this energy with small practices that help you connect and transform:
🔥 Fire ritual
Write on a paper everything you want to release:
fears, guilt, cycles that no longer nourish you.
Burn it with intention, visualizing it transforming into light.
🕯️ Offering to your ancestors
Light a white candle and place near it something that represents your roots:
a photo, a flower, or a food.
Silently thank their presence in your story.
🌿 Meditation of rebirth
Imagine a door opening before you.
Behind remain your shadows; ahead, the new you emerging with clarity.
Breathe and take the step.
🌘 Accepting the shadow
In ancient times, Samhain was also a celebration of the inner darkness.
It invites us to reconcile with that part of ourselves we fear to look at.
Because only when we embrace the shadow do we stop fighting it.
And in that acceptance, we find power.
✨ Darkness is not the absence of light:
it is the place where light rests before being born again.
🌕 A new dawn
Samhain reminds us that every ending is a disguised beginning.
That to be reborn, we must first symbolically die.
And that true power is not in resisting change,
but in flowing with it.
So when the night of October 31 arrives,
light a candle.
Watch the fire dance and feel the calm of silence.
Listen to the whispers of the invisible…
🔥🌑 They may not be as far away as you think.
