Litha's Fire: Solar Magic & Moon in Leo 🌞

The Wheel of the Year has turned once again and stopped on June 21st to bless us with Midsummer—the beloved Pagan Summer Solstice celebrating Litha, the longest day of the year and the peak of summer itself.

When I think of Litha, one of the eight Sabbats celebrated throughout the year, what immediately comes to mind is illumination.

A bright golden light surrounding me.

The kind that makes you feel warm, safe, and protected.

Like opening your eyes at sunrise and breathing in that crisp morning air where everything feels exactly as it should be. The world seems quieter. Lighter. Full of possibility.

Suddenly, that energetic burst of motivation returns, and for a brief moment, you feel on top of the world.

Cue dramatic music.

But jokes aside, Litha truly is the embodiment of divine inspiration.

Historically, this festival carries symbolism surrounding the eternal dance between light and darkness. While the Sun stands victorious at its highest point in the sky, there is also an understanding that from this day forward, darkness slowly begins its return.

This sacred balance is what gives Litha its deeper meaning.

It comes as no surprise then that traditional celebrations often include lighting bonfires to honor the Sun's immense power. People gather herbs, weave floral wreaths, spend time in nature with Mother Gaia, and leave offerings for nature spirits.

These practices remind us that even during life's darkest seasons, light continues to exist.

This year, however, the energy feels even more potent as we move through the influence of the Moon in Leo.

If Litha asks us to celebrate our inner light, Leo asks us to embody it.

To remind us that we were never meant to shrink ourselves to make others comfortable.

Instead, we are being called to stand fully in our power, honor our desires, and trust the unique gifts we bring into the world.

In many ways, this combination feels like a cosmic permission slip.

Litha is also considered one of the most auspicious times for love magic, handfastings, and sacred unions.

The Pagan ceremony known as Handfasting has become one of the most recognized traditions associated with this season.

Originating from ancient Celtic customs, a couple's hands are ceremonially bound together using ribbons or cords to symbolize commitment, unity, and partnership.

In fact, this ancient practice is believed to be the origin of the famous phrase:

"Tying the knot."

Even today, many modern Pagan couples choose to marry or renew their vows during Litha because of its strong association with love, fertility, and blessings.

Modern Pagans often view Litha as a time to reconnect with personal power and celebrate the brightness of life itself.

These simple rituals can help you align with the festival's solar energy.

Find a quiet place where you feel comfortable and grounded.

Close your eyes and visualize the darkness currently present in your life.

Then imagine a radiant golden light piercing through that darkness.

Watch as the light expands until it completely fills your entire being.

Once immersed in this golden glow, visualize your desires as though they have already manifested.

Feel them.

Become them.

Write down three desires you genuinely wish to manifest.

At the bottom of the paper write:

"I receive my Litha blessings."

Place the paper into a bonfire and allow it to burn.

As the flames transform your intentions into ash, celebrate those desires as though they are already making their way toward you.

If you are single and seeking romance, write:

"I, (your name), attract a loving, emotionally available, single partner into my life now."

Draw a circle around the statement three times.

Fold the paper toward yourself three times.

Burn it safely and release the ashes outdoors while saying:

"Thank you to the spirits of Litha."

If you are already in a relationship, Litha offers an opportunity for healing and renewal.

Write down three issues you would like to improve.

Exchange papers with your partner.

Discuss each issue calmly and honestly before burning the papers together to symbolically release what no longer serves the relationship.

At its core, Litha is a celebration of life itself.

It teaches us to acknowledge our victories without guilt.

To embrace joy without waiting for permission.

To recognize that we have survived every difficult season that once threatened to break us.

Work with her for: strength, confidence, protection, and overcoming obstacles.

The Sun goddess who guides the solar chariot across the heavens each day. Sol represents endurance, vitality, and life's sacred rhythms.

Work with her for: motivation, energy, resilience, and life direction.

The living embodiment of the Sun itself. Helios illuminates hidden truths and brings awareness to what has remained unseen.
