Lighting Your Way Through Dark Times

Lighting Your Way Through Dark Times

The Candle Ritual

One candle. Five minutes. That’s all you need.

Not elaborate ceremony. Not expensive tools. Not years of mystical training or the “right” spiritual credentials.

Just you, a candle, and the willingness to create light in darkness.

This is the oldest, simplest, most accessible form of magic humans have practiced. For thousands of years, across every culture, in every tradition, lighting a flame in darkness has been sacred.

And it still is.

How can I do this when I am not a place I can light a candle? Is a “virtual candle” or something like that is as effective, if that’s even a thing? Long story short, my family situation is such that I don’t have a place I can do this without questions being raised I don’t want to answer. I greatly enjoyed this article, I could feel the comfort of candlelight as I read.

LED candles are perfectly fine for candle magic!! Some of them even “flicker” just like real candles, which might help your focus. I also don’t invite questions about my practices, but you can always use candles to decorate a space without much explanation. “I think it’s pretty & I like watching it. It helps me feel calm,” it pretty much universally acceptable as an answer. And not untrue!

hi. I have found on mornings when I am not in a place to do a candle that even a YouTube video of just a candle flame with no sound also seems to work!

When you wrote this: ‘You don’t need to wait for the “right” time or the “right” candle or until you “know more” about magic,’ it felt like you were speaking directly to me. I ALWAYS feel like I don’t know enough yet to do the thing (not just magic- always). Even in nursing school… not bragging, but I was the valedictorian of my class. I was that girl other people checked in with when they weren’t exactly sure. And still, during clinical rotations, I was always the most hesitant to put my hands on an actual patient. What if I don’t actually know enough? What if I do it wrong? The type of reassurance you included here may not always feel important to say, but for me, it was important to hear. Thank you 💛🌙

ohhh Shaina, isnt imposter syndrome such a hard road for those of us who tend to overachieve? I was always top of class and talented in anything I would try, but I never could quite feel like I was 'good enough'. it kind of clicked for me in (cont).

my rehabilitation work. in the early days I mentioned to my friend that I wasn't sure when I could call myself a rehabilitator. and she responded with, well, don't you rehabilitate wildlife? congrats, you are a rehabilitator.
