Broken Boundaries
Article · 2 min read ·

If you keep moving the fence, don’t get mad when the cows eat your garden.
Let’s talk about boundaries—the invisible fences that keep your soul from becoming an all-access theme park.
Most people treat boundaries like optional guidelines. Empaths? They treat them like “suggestions,” moving them every time someone looks sad, disappointed, or throws a guilt grenade.
Here’s the truth: every time you break, move, or abandon a boundary, you’re not being compassionate—you’re betraying yourself. And nothing will drain your spirit faster than self-betrayal.
Why Boundaries Matter
God Himself set boundaries. Oceans stop at shorelines. Seasons change on schedule. Even heaven has gates. So why do you think your life is supposed to run without guardrails?
Boundaries aren’t about being mean. They’re about being true. A “yes” without integrity is a lie. And every “no” you refuse to say writes another IOU your soul has to pay off later.
The Signs of Broken Boundaries
- You’re exhausted, resentful, or secretly pissed at the very people you keep saying yes to.
- You rationalize giving in: “It’s just easier this way” or “They need me.”
- You feel like you’ve lost control of your own time, energy, or peace.
Translation: you’ve been leaking energy through cracks in the fence you should’ve never opened.
Why We Break Them (Especially Empaths)
- Guilt: You mistake protecting yourself for hurting someone else.
- Fear: You’re terrified they’ll leave, reject, or dislike you.
- Illusion: You think love means limitless access, when actually love without boundaries isn’t love—it’s codependency.
Empaths are especially prone to this because your radar is tuned to everyone else’s emotions. You feel the disappointment, the hurt, the need—so you fold. But folding doesn’t make you kind. It makes you complicit in your own exhaustion.
How to Hold the Line
- Decide once. Boundaries aren’t case-by-case negotiations. Make them clear and non-negotiable.
- Say no without a monologue. You don’t owe anyone a 10-point PowerPoint about why you’re protecting yourself.
- Trust the fallout. If someone walks away because you stopped letting them cross your line, they weren’t meant to stay.
The Bottom Line
Every time you honor a boundary, you honor God’s design for you. Every time you break one, you sign up for chaos you didn’t need. Boundaries aren’t selfish—they’re sacred.
Truth Bomb: Protect them. Guard them. Live them. Because without them, your gift of empathy becomes a curse, and your soul stays on life support.
