A Gentle Path Out of Overdrive

This is an invitation to those High-Performing Achievers.

For high‑performing achievers, overdrive is a kind of second skin. You live with a level of vigilance that informs the way you move through the world. You anticipate. You respond. You carry. You hold. You become the one others rely on because you’ve trained yourself to be unshakeable.

And for a long time, that identity feels like safety.

Eventually, though, a quieter truth begins to stir. You notice the tension that never fully leaves your body and become aware of the thinking mind that keeps scanning even when nothing is wrong.

This is often the moment — the threshold — when something inside you realizes it can’t keep going the way it has. You become deeply aware that something is afoot. You begin questioning the way you have spent your lifetime operating and find yourself in a new place.

I know this intimately. I lived in perpetual “do mode" for years, wearing my vigilance like a badge of honour. I believed that if I could anticipate every possible outcome, I could prevent things from falling apart. I could keep myself and loved ones safe. I would provide and all would be well. It felt noble. Responsible. Necessary.

Only later did I understand that this vigilance wasn’t strength — it was fear dressed up as safety. A younger part of me trying desperately to keep life manageable, striving for outcomes and control.

I hold a lot of tenderness for that version of myself — which is great because she still comes to visit sometimes!

Now that I recognize her though, our relationship has changed. Whenever she visits, I feel her presence and gently let her know that all is well. Sometimes we need to take a time out – i_n the form of meditation, breathwork, a walk, stretching, moving my body, creating art_ – something to interrupt the pattern.

Back to that threshold moment, though, and the point of this post.

It was during a season when that protective part of myself was especially loud, that something unexpected found me.

I was at a reflexology appointment and noticed a some certificates on the practitioner’s wall. One of them read Integrated Energy Therapy®.

Curious, I asked about it. When she explained that it involved channeling angelic energy, my programmed mind bristled. Angels? Really?

Eventually, this skepticism softened and curiosity and openness to experience led to my first appointment. That first treatment was a turning point. Not dramatic — more like a deep exhale I didn’t know I’d been holding for years.

I left feeling profoundly tired, as if my body finally had permission to stop bracing. I went home, locked my bedroom door, curled into bed, and drifted in and out of sleep for the rest of the day.

Allowing myself to rest like this was highly unusual. Who has time for rest when there's so much to do, I'd often ask myself.

And then, the next morning, something shifted.

I woke with a surge of energy. I played music and danced and sang in my kitchen. As I realized that I hadn’t done any of these things in a very long time, tears of gratitude and release rolled down my face. It felt like a part of me — the freer and younger version of myself that had become buried under responsibility, vigilance, and performance — had finally resurfaced.

Session by session, I felt myself soften. My intuition sharpened. My relationship with life changed. I stopped gripping outcomes and more and more, began trusting the natural rhythm of things.

The impact was so profound that I eventually trained in the modality — first to understand it, then to share it with family and friends. Over time, my confidence grew, my client base expanded, and I stepped into teaching the work.

What began as an awareness of being constantly in “do mode” became a doorway into a gentler, more intuitive way of living — one where I no longer needed to live in overdrive to feel safe. One where my strength came not from vigilance, but from presence.

What is Integrated Energy Therapy® (IET®)?

IET® works with the body’s cellular memory and energy field to release the emotional and energetic imprints that accumulate when we’re just living life the way we always have. It helps the body let go of the stored tension, fear, guilt, or over-responsibility that we’ve become accustomed to out of habit or conditioning. As these layers release, it can feel like the nervous system shifts out of survival mode and into a more natural state of presence.

People often describe it as the first time in a long time that their body stops bracing.

And, to all of this, I’d like to add something important. You don’t need this modality to let go of all that heaviness. Not at all. When you develop the consistent practice of neutrality and of having no attachment to outcome, you can drop into the beautiful calm state in an instant.

Sometimes, though, a permission slip can be helpful. In the teachings of Daryl Anka (Bashar), a permission slip is simply something that helps you allow what is already available within you. In this way, IET® and other practices can be understood as a gentle and structured gift—one that helps the body soften, the mind settle, and the deeper intelligence within you reorganize and return to its natural state.

The body can remember how to rest. The heart remembers how to open. The system remembers that it doesn’t have to brace against life in the same way. Over time, this recognition deepens into trust in your own capacity to shift, to soften, and to return to coherence whenever you choose.

From Healing to Remembrance

One of the most liberating perspectives I've come to understand is that our essential self is already whole. It’s about helping you remember yourself. Put another way, it helps you access a state that already exists within you but has been hard to reach.

Why This Matters

If you’re beginning to sense that the way you’ve been operating is no longer sustainable, you’re awakening to the truth that you don’t have to live in a constant state of alertness. You can give yourself permission to shift out of survival mode and into a steadier, more grounded way of being — one that doesn’t diminish your strength but roots it in something deeper.

Yours in Healing,

Teresa
