There are elements of nature that carry a presence difficult to explain with words alone.

Rainwater is one of them.

Whenever the rain comes, I feel nature going through a process of renewal. The earth receives the water, leaves are washed clean, and the air transforms. Within my practices, I've learned to look upon this moment with respect and to recognize rainwater as a special element for my rituals.

Water that comes from the sky

Water has always been associated with emotions, intuition, cleansing, and transformation.

But rainwater holds, for me, a particular energy.

It travels through the sky before touching the Earth.

It falls on trees, feeds rivers, penetrates the soil, and participates directly in the cycles of life. That's why, when I collect rainwater, I feel I'm receiving a small fragment of nature's movement.

In natural witchcraft, our relationship with the elements begins with observation.

Rain arrives at the right moment.

It doesn't ask permission to transform the landscape.

It simply falls, cleanses, nourishes, and goes on its way.

This is one of the great lessons I find in rainwater: there are moments when we too must allow life to wash away what should no longer remain.

How to collect rainwater

When I know it's going to rain, I like to prepare a clean glass container and leave it in an open space where it can directly receive the water.

I prefer the container to be protected from dirt, leaves, or other materials that might fall into it.

While the rain falls, I don't see that moment as merely a collection.

I observe.

I listen to the sound of water.

I smell the wet earth.

And I give thanks to nature.

After collecting the water, I store it in a clean glass container, properly sealed.

An important practice is to maintain awareness about safety: rainwater should not be consumed!!!

In my practice, it's intended exclusively for ritualistic and symbolic use.

How to use rainwater in rituals

The way we use an element within a spiritual practice is born from the intention we place in it.

I usually work with rainwater in different ways.

For energetic cleansings

This is one of the uses I enjoy most.

I can add a small amount of rainwater to the water used for cleansing a ritualistic space, always respecting the materials and surfaces.

While performing the cleansing, I like to establish a clear intention:

"May all that weighs heavy, stagnates, or no longer belongs to this space be carried away."

This moment represents a renewal.

Just as rain cleanses leaves and earth, we also use this time to energetically care for our environment.

To consecrate ritual objects

Rainwater can also be used to mark the beginning of a new cycle with certain objects.

Crystals, containers, decorative instruments, and objects used in spiritual practices can be placed near the water or receive a small amount of it, as long as the material is safe for such contact.

Before doing this, I like to ask myself:

What energy do I wish to awaken in this object?

Intention always guides the practice.

For closing rituals

Rain has a movement that reminds me of cycles that need to move forward.

That's why I also like to work with rainwater when I wish to close a chapter.

I write what I'm ready to release on a piece of paper and, beside a container of rainwater, I reflect on everything that cycle taught me.

I don't do this with anger.

I don't try to erase my history.

I give thanks for what I lived and recognize that there are things that need to remain in the past.

Because letting go is also a form of love.

Rainwater and the power of intention

Many people ask me if there's a right way to work with elements of nature.

I believe that before seeking ready-made formulas, we need to build a true relationship with what we're using.

Natural magic is born from the encounter.

From respect for the plant.

From connection with the earth.

From observing the Moon.

From silence before the fire.

And from understanding that water has a story far greater than any ritual we could create.

When I use rainwater, I don't believe I'm simply holding a container full of water.

I'm choosing to pause.

To observe nature.

And to allow that element to remind me of what also exists within me.

Rain always teaches us

Over time, I realized that my relationship with rainwater isn't only in the rituals.

It's in what it teaches me.

Not every renewal arrives quietly.

There are storms.

There are winds.

There are days when water falls with such force it seems capable of transforming the entire landscape.

And then, the rain passes.

The Earth continues.

The sky opens again.

Life is like this too.

We go through moments that feel too intense. We carry emotions, stories, and experiences that leave deep marks.

But there exists within us a constant capacity for renewal.

That's why, whenever I collect a few drops that fell from the sky, I do so with respect.

Because, for me, the magic lies precisely there:

in recognizing that nature speaks to us all the time.

We just need to learn to listen.
