In witchcraft, shadow work means bringing awareness to what's been hidden so we can reclaim our autonomy. Today, we meet the shadow of rejection.

🖤 When "no" lingers

A rejection can end with a word, a departure, or a closed door. The impact, however, can linger.

Over time, it can shape how we relate to others: we avoid exposing ourselves, hide our desires, seek approval, or pull away before forming bonds.

This shadow can also wear a mask of self-sufficiency. It looks like strength, but it may be hiding the fear of needing someone and discovering we won't be welcomed. Recognizing this pattern is different from staying trapped in it.

🌑 The mask in magic

In magical practice, the mask represents what we show the world and what we protect. For this work, we don't need to destroy it. We need to see it.

🔮 Practice — The shadow mirror

Choose a small mirror and an object that represents protection for you: a stone, piece of jewelry, amulet, or magical object.

Place both in front of you.

Observe your reflection in silence for a few moments. Then, hold the object and say:

"I recognize the part of me that learned to protect itself. I thank it for its intention, but I reclaim the power to choose how I want to relate to the world. I can exist without needing everyone's approval."

Carry the object with you the next day as a talisman of self-belonging.

🌘 The transformation

Not every "no" defines your worth. Not every distance means abandonment. Some doors simply weren't meant to stay open. The most important belonging begins when we stop negotiating our identity to win acceptance.

The shadow of rejection loses its power when it stops choosing for us.
