A ritual to release excess and restore movement
Water is present in all of nature's cycles. It flows through rivers, nourishes the earth, moves through our bodies, and constantly changes state. It doesn't need to remain still to exist; movement is part of its very nature.
Water is connected to cleansing, emotions, intuition, and renewal. Working with this element means creating space to acknowledge what we've accumulated and allowing excess to find its way out.
Cleansing, in this context, doesn't mean erasing feelings or denying experiences. It means no longer carrying what doesn't need to occupy the same space within us.
๐ง Water as an element of renewal
Water also teaches us about movement. When it becomes dammed up, it loses its essential quality of flowing; when it finds a path, it keeps moving forward.
There are emotions that need to be felt, experiences that need to be processed, and situations that need closure. The ritual creates a dedicated moment for this process, without demanding urgency.
We can work with this quality of water through baths, prepared with plants used in cleansing and renewal practices.
๐ฟ The herbs of the ritual
For this practice, we'll use rosemary, lavender, and basil.
Rosemary is associated with cleansing, protection, and vitality. Lavender brings a quality of serenity and care, while basil is connected to protection, purification, and prosperity.
The combination creates a bath designed to cleanse while maintaining a sense of comfort.
๐ซง Renewal Bath Ritual
You will need:
- 1 liter of water;
- 1 sprig of rosemary;
- 1 handful of lavender;
- 1 handful of basil;
- 1 glass or ceramic container.
Heat the water until it comes to a boil.
Turn off the heat, add the herbs, and cover the container. Let it steep for approximately 10 minutes.
While the preparation steeps, take your regular shower. Strain the infusion and wait for it to reach a comfortable temperature.
Then, slowly pour the herbal bath from the neck down, letting the water flow over your body without rushing.
During this moment, focus on the sensation of the water and your breathing. When finished, say:
"I allow excess to follow its path.
I release what I no longer need to carry.
I embrace my emotions without remaining trapped in them.
I let the water carry away what is ready to leave.
I open myself to new movement."
There's no need to rinse.
Gently dry your body and remain in silence for a few minutes before returning to your activities.
๐ After the ritual
The bath concludes the practice, but the element's purpose continues in daily life.
For the rest of the day, try not to immediately fill every space that arises. Allow for some moments of silence, rest, or simply the absence of stimulation. Cleansing also happens when we stop adding new burdens to what we're already processing.
๐ง What this second portal teaches
Fire taught us to ignite an intention and transform it into action. Water presents another kind of movement: the movement of release.
Not every transformation requires doing more. Some changes begin when we stop insisting on what has already served its purpose. Water doesn't struggle against its path. It finds passage, and continues.
๐ง Day 2 of 7 โ I flow.
I release excess, embrace my movement, and allow life to follow its course. ๐งโจ
