Tarot as a compass for becoming your best self

Tarot helps us on those days when we feel we need an answer, or simply a sign. But perhaps tarot never came to tell us exactly what's going to happen, but rather to remind us of something more beautiful: who are we when we start listening to ourselves?

We live surrounded by noise. Opinions, expectations, endless to-do lists... and amid all that, our inner voice ends up speaking so quietly that we almost stop hearing it. Tarot has this lovely ability to invite us to pause. Not because the cards know our destiny better than we do, but because they offer us symbols capable of awakening conversations that already existed within our hearts.

Every card is a mirror. Some reflect our light, others our wounds, our fears, or what we've been trying to avoid for weeks. And, curiously, when we stop asking "what's going to happen?" and start asking "what do I need to understand?" the tarot gets us and gives us a knowing wink.

Becoming your best self isn't about being perfect. Nor is it about healing all your wounds at once. It's a much simpler path and, at the same time, a much deeper one. It's learning to choose yourself each day, speak to yourself more kindly, set a boundary when needed, rest without guilt, have the courage to change direction when your soul no longer feels at home where it is.

And here, tarot can become a beautiful companion. I really like using just a single card sometimes, each morning.

Before drawing it, take a few deep breaths. You can light a candle if you feel like it, make yourself some tea, or simply sit in silence for a few minutes—there's no need to create a perfect moment, just a present one.

Then, ask a question that comes from your personal growth. Instead of asking what will happen today, try little things like:

  • What part of me needs more love today?
  • What energy can I cultivate during this day?
  • What am I ready to let go of?
  • Where can I place my attention to grow?
  • What is this moment in my life trying to teach me?

Open-ended questions tend to offer much richer reflections than those seeking only a yes or no. Tarot works especially well when we use it as a tool for self-knowledge rather than a definitive answer about the future.

When the card appears, don't rush to look up its meaning online. Observe it first.

What's the first thing that caught your attention?

What emotion does it awaken in you?

Is there a symbol that seems to speak to you more than the rest?

Often our intuition is already interpreting the message even before we know the card's traditional meaning. Afterward, if you want, you can consult a guide to expand the information and discover new nuances.

A small notebook can become one of the best allies in this practice. Write the date, the card that came up, and a few lines about how it makes you feel. In the evening, go back and read what you wrote in the morning and ask yourself: how did this energy show up during the day?

Over the weeks, you'll begin to discover something wonderful: your patterns.

You'll see cards that come back again and again when you're going through the same lesson. You'll recognize moments when certain energies appear just before making important decisions. And you'll understand that the real learning was never about memorizing meanings, but about knowing yourself a little better each time. Keeping a record of your readings also helps you observe personal evolution over the long term, something many people find especially valuable in a daily reflection practice.

There's something really beautiful that happens when you turn tarot into a small daily ritual. Little by little, you stop looking for answers outside because you start trusting more in the ones already living inside you. The cards stop being an oracle and become a conversation.

A conversation with yourself, and perhaps that's their greatest magic.

Because the best version of you was never someone different, was never at the end of an impossible road or hidden behind an infinite list of things to improve. It's always been there.

I agree. Tarot is a wonderful introspective tool. It can also help with journal prompts and growth. Love this perspective!
