What actually is a Sabbat?

The Invisible Door.

When you hear the word Sabbat, images might come to mind: rituals, altars, flowers, candles, dates marked on a calendar, or specific celebrations within a spiritual tradition.

All of that can be part of a Sabbat.

However, it doesn't fully define it. A Sabbat is, first and foremost, an energetic turning point within the yearly cycle.

A moment when nature shifts its rhythm and that shift becomes perceptible.

Each Sabbat is a Threshold. A Threshold is an in-between space. It's not what's ending. It's not what's beginning. It's the exact instant where one energy transforms into another.

Ancient agricultural peoples celebrated them because they depended on the 'grace' of Mother Earth.

They observed the light, the temperature, animal behavior, the ripening of crops. They knew that when nature changed, their lives had to adapt as well. The Sabbat is the awareness of change.

Today, we no longer depend on the land, yet seasonal changes continue to occur.

As living beings, we are affected: the length of daylight varies, environmental energy changes.

Our body responds differently at each of these moments. Our mood adjusts to the solar rhythm, even if we don't consciously perceive it.

The Sabbats mark these key moments within the solar year:

-Two solstices, where light reaches its maximum or minimum point.

-Two equinoxes, where day and night are balanced.

-Four cross-quarter festivals that mark the transitions between seasons. In total, 8 moments that structure the Wheel of the Year.

From a structured perspective, the Sabbats organize time. From a mystical perspective, they reveal the internal process. Each one represents a specific energetic quality: beginning, expansion, fullness, harvest, descent, silence, gestation, and rebirth. Celebrating a Sabbat doesn't mean forcing yourself to feel something specific.

It means pausing and asking yourself: What phase am I in? What is being born? What is maturing? What needs to close? The Sabbat illuminates the movement that already exists.

That's why it should be free from spiritual obligations and to-do lists or rituals. Each Sabbat is a tool for conscious observation.

Your Inner Witch doesn't need calendars to know when something is changing. The memory activates and you perceive it in your energy, in your emotions, in your need for expansion or withdrawal. The Sabbat offers you a framework. A pause. A mirror. When you understand this, Sabbats stop being external celebrations and become points of internal alignment. Set aside the idea of 'fulfilling' them. Don't you already have enough on your plate?

The time has come to UNDERSTAND. And that difference completely transforms the experience.
