THE PERSEIDS

WHEN THE SKY WHISPERS OUR WISHES

Every summer, when night is at its deepest, the sky seems to remember something we've forgotten: that stars can fall too.

The Perseids arrive like a rain of light piercing through the darkness. They originate from comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, whose dust and tiny particles hang suspended along its orbit around the Sun. When Earth crosses that stream of particles, they enter our atmosphere and light up for a few seconds, creating one of the year's most captivating celestial spectacles.

But there's another way to see them.

For centuries, those who watched the heavens searching for signs saw more than just physics in each shooting star: a message.

Perhaps that's why we still make wishes when a Perseid streaks across the sky.

We don't know exactly when one will appear. We only know we must watch.

And that is precisely one of their greatest lessons.

There are moments in life that feel like shooting stars: they arrive without warning, light up our world for an instant, and vanish. Some people are this way. So are some opportunities. Even certain versions of ourselves are meant to pass, making room for something new.

The Perseids remind us that darkness doesn't mean the absence of light. Sometimes we need night to fall to discover what we couldn't see in daylight.

A SMALL RITUAL UNDER THE STARS

Find a quiet spot on a Perseids night. Sit comfortably and let your eyes adjust to the darkness. You can bring an unlit white candle, a quartz stone, or simply your hands.

Before you begin, write on a piece of paper what you wish to leave behind.

Don't write names.

Write emotions: fear, insecurity, sadness, doubts, guilt.

Then look to the sky and say slowly:

"I surrender to the night what I no longer need.

I open my path to what is truly meant for me."

When a shooting star appears, don't wish from desperation.

Wish from trust.

Because perhaps the true mystery of the Perseids isn't that stars grant wishes, but that for a few seconds they make us look up and remember that we're still capable of wonder.

And maybe that's the real gift.

That as a light crosses the sky, something inside us lights up again too.

Look up. Breathe. Believe.

Perhaps the universe isn't answering yet.

Perhaps it's simply teaching you to listen.
