The Kybalion: Principle of Cause
Article · 2 min read ·

EVERY EFFECT HAS A CAUSE
Nothing happens by chance.
What we call "coincidence" is, in reality, the name we give to causes we don't yet understand.
The Kybalion states this emphatically:
"Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to Law."
This principle reminds us that the universe is not disordered chaos, but a fabric of relationships where every event responds to something that came before.
By understanding it, we stop living like leaves carried by the wind and begin to recognize ourselves as active participants in the great chain of causes and effects. The illusion of chance
When we don't see the causes, we speak of "luck," "fate," or "misfortune."
But chance doesn't exist: only our ignorance exists.
Just as a child who drops a glass may believe that "it broke on its own" until learning the law of gravity, we believe in coincidence until we see the invisible network that connects events.
Chance is the mask that causality wears when we don't recognize it.
The map of causes
Think of a recent event in your life (positive or negative). Make a list of the causes that originated it.
Ask yourself: what part depended on me and what part was beyond my control?
Dismantling luck Remember a moment when you said: "I was lucky" or "it was bad luck."
Do the exercise of tracing the causes that led to that result.
Observe a pattern For one week, record a daily habit (such as your eating, your rest, or your mood). Observe how each cause generates a clear effect on your body or mind.
Affirmation of causality
Repeat each morning: "Nothing happens by chance. I am a sower of causes and a reaper of effects."
Final reflection
The Principle of Cause and Effect reminds us that life is not a lottery.
Everything that happens responds to a web of visible and invisible causes.
