The Temazcal: Womb of Stone and Steam
โIn the Temazcal, we don't just sweat out toxins. We sweat out memories, burdens, patterns. And there, in the darkness, we see the light of the soul.โ
The Temazcal is an ancient purification ritual that originated among the indigenous peoples of Mesoamericaโespecially the Mayans, Aztecs, and Toltecs. Its name comes from the Nahuatl โtemazcalli,โ which means โsteam bathhouse.โ
But it is much more than a bath:
It is a womb of stone and steam, where we are reborn.
During the ritual, we enter a small circular structure (similar to a tent), heated with glowing volcanic stones called abuelas (โgrandmothersโ). Medicinal herbs are thrown over them, releasing aromatic and sacred steam. Inside, in the darkness and heat, we sing, sweat, cry, and pray.
It is a journey of physical, emotional, and spiritual liberation. It is the body returning to the Earth, and the soul remembering who it is.
In the Temazcal, we don't just sweat out toxins. We sweat out pain, old burdens, and memories. And we emerge reborn, as children of fire and earth.

The Call of La Madreย เผ
On Saturday night, I consecrated Ayahuasca in the village where I had been carrying out my healing and return-to-self processes. It was the beginning of a profound healing. I looked inside myself and faced attitudes that no longer made sense, that were distancing me from spirituality and the woman I wanted to beโthe one I saw in my first vision with medicine.
It was an intense process. I had to eliminate patterns I didn't even know I practiced until I confronted them. I exposed everything I'd been carrying around as if it were meโฆ and I said enough was enough.
I saw my ancestors emerging from the trees. They walked slowly and asked me:
"Is this what you want for yourself? Do you want change?"
I answered yesโwhile fighting back vomiting, because I hate that physical sensation. Then they said:
"To heal, you need to cleanse yourself. You need to let go of everything that isn't you, that isn't your truth. Let your body expel it, so your soul can free itself."
And so it was. I vomited for a long timeโit felt like an eternity. During this cleansing, I felt them all around me, encouraging me. I felt everything I had rejected within me leaving my body, leaving my soul free.
And thenโฆ I died

On Sunday morning, I woke up feeling light. There were no more burdens. I ate, regained my energy, and prepared for the Temazcal.
I took the first dose of Ayahuasca, and this time, there was no gentleness. The medicine arrived urgently, asking me to continue the process from the night before. I sat for hours, serene on the outside. Inside, I traveled back in time.
I found myself in a tent, guided by a shaman. I passed through different cultures, different eras. I saw how medicine was consecrated by ancient nations. Although they spoke unknown languages, I understood. It was as if I were embodied within a native.

The Vision: The Yellow Goddessย โ๏ธ๏ธ
Everything was preparation for what was to comeโฆ
At one point, I was talking to a womanโall within the vision, while externally I remained still. She asked me to feel the wind passing through me. I felt her arms lifting mine, and I opened my eyes so she could see through me. She said:
"It's good to see... and how good it is to feel the wind."
Her voice was that of an elderly woman. I felt my body bend, my back ache as if I were eighty years old. We looked up at the blue sky and saw black birds flying overhead during the ritual. Later, I confirmed in the photos: they were indeed there. Later, I discovered that vultures symbolize purification, renewal, and death as a portal to rebirth.
When the woman said goodbye, I felt my energy vulnerable. Many spirits approachedโthey wanted to feel what she felt. I was too weak to stop them. They came, they felt, they left. I grew weaker and weaker.
Until I heard a strong, firm, authoritative voice:
"Look what they're doing to her! Stop! Leave her alone!"
In that instant, I shivered from head to toe. Everything turned yellow, brilliant, like gold under the sun.
She arrived.
She didn't say her name. She had no face. She was pure light. I called her the Yellow Goddess.
Her presence was majestic. Her voice was firm, welcoming. She protected me, gave me something to drinkโa golden liquid in a sacred vessel. I felt strong again. We talked. She advised me, gently rebuked me, reminded me who I was.
I've never felt anything like it. To this day, when I summon her, she comesโswift, precise, present.
She told me:
"You are light. Your power is unparalleled." You are the Goddess of your life and your choices. Do not allow others to use your power. Do not extinguish your light.
She shared secrets of the astral. And said:
"Now, yes, you are ready to enter the womb of Mother Earth."
I opened my eyes. My friend helped me upโmy legs were numb. I was ready for the Temazcal.
Rebirth in the Womb of the Earthย แฏพ
โI entered the Temazcal to heal my fear. I left with a new name burning in my chest.โ
At the site where I participated, we entered the tent on our knees, or crawled. So I went. As I entered, the aroma of burning herbs enveloped me. My body moved on its ownโas if it already knew the way.
Still kneeling, I lowered my head toward the ground. My hand touched the mud. My fingers sank into the earth, drawing its energy. The air was thick with the scent of herbs. I sweated profusely, releasing the last traces of Thaynรก who was dying there.
I remembered the revelations of medicine, the whispers of the Goddess, the teachings of Ganesha, the advice of Exu Caveira, the lessons of Maria Padilha, the renewal of Kali, the strength of Hecate, the affection of the Pretos-Velhos. I felt the pride of my ancestors. The presence of the Shamans.
I was energized by all who have guided me since I was a child. When my body was complete, I crawled to the exit. I was greeted by the ritual brothers, seated on a chair, bathed in cold water for stabilization.
And then, I was reborn.
"From that day forward, I carry yellow as my sword and veil. I am the daughter of the Goddess of Light who dances on the stones of time."
This ritual took place in 2023. To this day, I meditate on everything I saw, heard, and felt. With each new meditation, a new teaching.
My life has changed. My relationships have changed. But, above all, my way of being in the world has changed.
If you feel the call, don't hesitate.
Medicine recognizes those who are ready to heal.
Light on your path โ
