HEALING YOUR INNER CHILD

Meeting the true needs

Your inner child has developed coping mechanisms to survive. Identify the unmet needs behind these defense strategies.

Choose a recurring problematic behavior you want to transform (e.g., blaming, manipulation). Start by compassionately welcoming the part of you that acts this way. Ask it: "What is the deep need motivating this behavior?

What do you really need that you don't dare ask for directly?" Let the answer emerge (e.g., need for comfort, validation, attention). Thank that part for its honesty. Reassure it: you will find healthier ways together to meet that need. By decoding the hidden motivations, you will identify your inner child's true needs.

Then you can meet them appropriately.

Finding healthy ways to meet them.

Once you've identified the fundamental need, think about positive ways to meet it.

- Need for security? Create comforting rituals, surround yourself with soothing objects.

- Need for attention? Give yourself moments of mindfulness, without distraction. Talk with supportive people.

- Need for stimulation? Go out into nature, cultivate your creativity, set motivating challenges for yourself.

- Need for rest? Schedule quiet times, relaxation. Learn to do nothing.

- Need for validation? Write down your progress each day in a journal. Congratulate yourself on your successes.

By responding to the true needs in a constructive way, you will see your coping behaviors dissolve naturally.

Expressing and validating their emotions

Your inner child needs to express themselves to release their repressed emotions. Here are some tips:

- Let them express themselves freely through art therapy: drawing, painting, sculpting, dance...

- Role-play to say out loud what they couldn't say. - Stage healing encounters with the people who hurt them.

- Start a written dialogue to clarify emotions.

- Confide in a trusted person who will know how to listen with empathy.

- Give them moments to cry, scream, hit a pillow.

- Validate their emotions without judging them.

Their anger and sadness are legitimate given the wounds endured. By welcoming them, you will help them move past them.
