The silence where everything begins

There's a moment in the lunar cycle that almost no one pays attention to: the days leading up to the New Moon. The sky seems to run out of answers, the night loses its brightness, and something inside us slowly begins to call for silence.

It's no coincidence that many traditions consider this stage a time for retreat. The Moon approaches its darkest phase and, symbolically, invites us to do the same: close our eyes, turn down the noise, and step for a few minutes into that inner territory where nothing has been written yet.

Meditation can then become a small doorway.

You don't need incense, music, or a perfect space. It's enough to sit comfortably once night has fallen, turn off the lights, and let silence fill the room.

Close your eyes.

Breathe slowly three times and observe how the air flows in and out without trying to change it. Then, imagine that before you lies a completely dark sky. There are no stars. No paths. No past or future.

Only darkness.

And in the middle of it, imagine a small spark of light.

That spark represents what you wish to begin.

Don't think yet about achieving it. Don't make endless lists. Simply ask yourself:

What do I want to be born in my life when the light returns?

It could be a decision, a healthier relationship with yourself, a project, a new way of living, or even something as simple as reclaiming peace.

Stay for a few minutes observing that small light.

Then, bring your attention to your body. Ask yourself what you need to leave behind before starting the new cycle. Perhaps it's a worry, a guilt, an unfinished conversation, or a version of yourself that no longer fits with who you're beginning to become.

Don't fight against it.

Imagine it as dry leaves that the wind slowly carries away.

The true magic of this meditation isn't in asking something of the Moon. It's in creating space within ourselves to recognize what we truly want.

When the New Moon arrives, you may not have all the answers. And that's precisely where its mystery lies.

Because darkness doesn't mean absence.

Sometimes it means something is growing where we cannot yet see it.

Before finishing, place one hand over your heart and the other over your abdomen. Breathe deeply and repeat mentally:

"I release what ends. I listen to what is born. I trust in what I cannot yet see."

Then, open your eyes slowly.

You don't need to do anything more.

Let the night continue on its way.

Because perhaps the New Moon doesn't come to light your path.

Perhaps it comes to remind you that you can also walk when there is no light yet.
