How I Welcome Each New Cycle
I've always seen the first day of the month as a small portal.
Though the calendar is a human construct, I like to believe these milestones offer us an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and choose once again the direction we want to follow.
It's like turning to a blank page.
A chance to leave behind what has already served its purpose and begin a new cycle with greater awareness.
Over the years, I've created a few rituals that help me make this transition. They're not rules or magic formulas. They're practices that connect me with myself and remind me, month after month, of the purpose I wish to cultivate.
Cinnamon Remains My First Step
Every first day of the month, besides blowing cinnamonโa practice I've written a full article aboutโI like to set aside time for other small rituals that help me welcome the month with presence and intention.
They're simple gestures, but they completely transform how I begin a new cycle.
Mindful Writing
One of my favorite practices is mindful writing.
Before opening my planner or diving into the day's tasks, I take out my journal and write down everything I want to build throughout the month.
I don't just write dreams.
I write achievable goals.
Projects.
Habits.
Changes I want to make.
And most importantly, the path I intend to take to reach each objective.
I've noticed that when I do this, my plans stop being mere wishes and start having direction.
It's as if, by putting words on paper, I'm making a commitment to myself.
Writing reminds me that results are born from small actions taken every day.
My Purification Bath
Another practice that's part of this moment is the energy cleansing bath.
As water flows over my body, I like to visualize it carrying away the emotional weight, the fatigue, the worries, and all the energies I don't want to carry into the new month.
More than cleansing the body, this moment represents a fresh start.
A way of giving thanks for the cycle that ended and making space for what's to come.
Each bath becomes a reminder that we can also renew our inner energy.
- Whenever possible, I take this bath in running water, a waterfall, or a river.
Consecrating My Amulets
After cleansing, I like to tend to the objects that accompany me throughout the month.
Crystals, talismans, pendants, or other amulets receive my attention.
I usually consecrate them with moon water, giving thanks for the protection and energy they represent for me.
Then I leave them to receive the midday sunlight.
The Value of Small Rituals
I've learned that spirituality isn't always found in grand ceremonies.
Often it happens in small gestures repeated with intention.
In writing a page.
In preparing a bath.
In holding a crystal in your hands.
In breathing deeply before beginning another cycle.
They're simple moments, yet filled with meaning.
An Invitation for the New Month
Every beginning of the month reminds me that life is made of cycles.
Some end.
Others begin.
And between one and another, there's a precious space where we can choose who we want to be.
Because in the end, the greatest magic isn't in the cinnamon, the crystals, or the amulets.
It's in the intention we place in each choice.
And it's precisely this intention that transforms a simple first day of the month into the beginning of a new story.
