The autumn equinox marks a time of balance: day and night are nearly equal in length, and nature slowly begins to turn inward. For me, it's also when the house shifts energy: warmer fabrics, the scent of spices, soft lighting, and small daily rituals.

But this year I realized something: the real change isn't the decorations. It's creating a space that also supports my lunar rituals.

You don't need a dedicated room or a perfect altar. Just a place that reminds you, every time you look at it, to give yourself a few minutes of presence.

Why create a sacred corner in autumn?

Autumn naturally invites us to slow down, while the Moon continues to mark our inner rhythm with its phases.

You can use your sacred corner in different ways throughout the lunar month:

  • New Moon: write down intentions, wishes, or goals to nurture.
  • Waxing Moon: spend a few minutes visualizing what you're building.
  • Full Moon: reflect on what you want to let go of and celebrate small wins.
  • Waning Moon: tidy up, rest, and make space for the new cycle.

This way, your space grows and changes with the Moon, rather than staying the same.

What to put in your sacred corner

There's no perfect list. Choose only what has meaning for you.

A candle

A candle can become the symbol of the time you dedicate to yourself. Lighting it before meditating, breathing, or writing can help you create a small pause in your day.

You can choose the color based on the season or the intention you want to bring to your ritual.

A crystal, if you like using them

Many people associate crystals with spiritual and meditation practices. If they're part of your journey, choose one that feels most aligned with where you are right now, and remember to care for it according to your preferred practice.

A plant or flower

Bringing a natural element into your home is a simple way to remember the connection with the seasons. Even a small plant on your nightstand or a leaf collected during a walk can bring your space to life.

A cup for herbal tea

Turning herbal tea into a ritual is simpler than it seems. The fragrance, the warmth, and the act of preparing it can become a moment of calm, especially on Full Moon evenings or during the first autumn chills.

A lunar journal

This is perhaps the item I recommend most.

You can use it to record:

  • New Moon intentions;
  • vivid dreams;
  • emotions during the Full Moon;
  • gratitude, reflections, or small changes you notice over time.

Rereading the pages after a few lunar cycles is an interesting way to observe how you feel and what's transforming.

A small ritual for the equinox and the Moon

If you want to inaugurate your sacred corner, try this short ritual.

  1. Set up your space and light a candle.
  2. Take three deep breaths.
  3. Write down one thing you want to nurture in this new cycle and one thing you're ready to let go of.
  4. Close the journal and thank yourself for dedicating this moment to yourself.

You don't need to do everything every day. Even five minutes can become a precious habit.

Your space doesn't have to be perfect

The most sacred corner of a home is often the one only you know about.

It could be a windowsill, a shelf, a nightstand, or even a box where you keep the items that accompany your rituals. It's not the size of the space that makes it special, but the intention you bring to it.

Now I'm curious to know about yours.

Do you have a corner of your home that you use during the New Moon or Full Moon?

Tell me about it in the comments: describe your space or tell me what's the one item that can never be missing from your autumn rituals.
