Menstruating during the full moon 🩸

Also called the Red Moon

Throughout our lives, we've heard it hundreds of times—almost always with negative connotations—that women are naturally lunatic. A few years ago, I began to embrace that idea, not from the madness and eccentricity that society imposes on us, but from the beautiful, cyclical, and empowering side of what it truly means 🌝

The menstrual cycle and the lunar cycle are deeply connected to each other, not only in timing but also in phases, and while for each woman it's not an exact cycle—and that's perfectly fine and completely valid—it's true that even so, the similarity is still incredibly striking. We must understand that our body is water, is blood, and is lymph, and just as the moon influences the tides, it also influences our body. If this topic interests you, we can explore it in another article.

Now let's dive into today's topic, deeply connected to April's full moon 🌸

We are cyclical beings, and within us dwell various cycles—the celestial, the internal, and the hormonal—and all these cycles either amplify and work in harmony with each other, or cancel each other out.

Menstruating during the full moon, also called the red moon, means that our hormonal cycle and the synodic cycle are happening at different times—this isn't a bad thing, quite the opposite. For me, menstruating during the full moon feels more vital, less tiring, with more control over my body, though be warned, emotions in the days before your period tend to be more intense, both for better and for worse, since with this lunar phase everything gets amplified to the max. I have a harder time sleeping and feel like I want to push several projects forward. Whereas if I menstruate during the new moon, I feel completely defeated, apathetic, and with zero control over my life. 😮‍💨✨

So what can we do about this? 🧘🏽‍♀️

There's nothing better than listening to yourself, listening to your body and understanding what you need. Like I said, every woman is different—we all go through this, but we each experience it in our own way. That's why there's nothing more important than WRITING. Keep a lunar journal tracking your menstrual cycle, your sensations, how you feel, and what you need, so you can observe patterns in the following cycles. And most importantly, here's a meditation that always really helps me during these days:

🌝The full moon signifies endings, closures, culmination—it's the result of our actions and the step before the disseminating moon, where everything feels lighter, more at peace, and less confused than in previous days. This meditation will help us invite in the balance we sometimes need during these intense days.

Menstruating is releasing, it's connecting with the earth, making way for the new, cleansing, and everything tends to gradually descend as the cycle progresses—and that's what we'll do with this meditation.

☁️First, find a quiet place. You don't need to go out into nature, but if you're near a natural space like the beach, forest, or your garden, even better. If that's not an option, a quiet room or your own bed with dim lighting will be more than enough.

🧘🏽‍♀️Adopt whatever position works best for you, whether lying down, sitting, or even standing while taking small steps.

🫁Breathe in and out in a relaxed way, being aware of your breath, as many times as you need, without rushing, and maintain this throughout the meditation.

🕯️Next, imagine that a warm white light, like that of the full moon, envelops you, as if you were inside an egg of light and warmth. This oval of light will protect us throughout our entire cycle until the next menstruation.

🌿After this, imagine that from beneath your belly appear endless roots that connect you with the earth, with Gaia, with Mother Nature. You begin to see and feel the energy flowing from your body to the earth and back again. You give the earth your cycle, what no longer serves you, but you're grateful for another month, and she returns all the calming energy you need. It's the perfect exchange for these days.

You remain there, feeling nature's connection with your body, aware that spring dwells within you and that the moon will provide exactly what you need most…

Stay in this position for as long as you need, being aware of that natural connection, that everything passes, everything comes, and everything synchronizes as it should.

When you need or want to come back, do a gentle stretch, give thanks, and write about how you felt. 🌞🙏
