πŸŒ• Lunar Rituals: Scientific or Mystical?

Are breathing, journaling, and meditation really that abstract?...and at the end, a little game for you!

The moon and the practices connected to it have become part of my lifeβ€”not just personally, but professionally as well. Yet I very often find myself talking with colleagues who, at the mere mention of full moons and astrology, picture fairies and wizards with wands, when in reality they have no idea about the world they're voluntarily choosing not to exploreβ€”a world that could transform some critical moments in their own lives.

That's why today, unlike my previous articles, I've decided to present a more "scientific" version of the practices that help mind, body, and spirit, one you can share with those friends who are a bit hesitant about the unknown.

πŸŒ‘ 1. The Moon as a "silent regulator" of the human body

The Moon doesn't influence the water our bodies are made of the way it influences the tides; instead, it acts on what sustains them: nocturnal light, circadian rhythms, melatonin, vigilance, attention.

β€’ New Moon β†’ total darkness

Higher melatonin, more introspective mind, more active parasympathetic system.

β€’ Full Moon β†’ intense light

Lower melatonin, higher vigilance, greater prefrontal cortex activity.

β€’ Quarters β†’ transition

Energy rising or falling, perfect for rituals of review and direction.

The Moon thus becomes a biological context that amplifies already scientifically proven practices.

🌬️ 2. Breathing: why certain phases enhance it

The New Moon is perfect for releasing tension, while the Last Quarter is ideal for letting go of what no longer serves.

This is because low nocturnal luminosity promotes increased melatonin, activation of the parasympathetic system, and greater heart rate variability (HRV), making diaphragmatic breathing with the 4-7-8 rhythm more effective.

🧘 3. Meditation: why the Full Moon intensifies lucidity

The Full Moon increases nocturnal brightness up to 0.25 lux: not much, but enough to reduce melatonin and increase alertness.

The result?

β€’ more lucid meditations

β€’ sharper visualizations

β€’ greater capacity for active introspection

It's the ideal phase when you need to meditate to manifest, to express gratitude, or to review how the past month unfolded.
