Your Inner Deity Checklist

Small Actions to Honor Your Spirit
A note before we begin: This piece moves through self-neglect, the practice of reconnecting with what you need, and the sometimes tender work of treating yourself as something worth tending. If you are in a period where basic self-care feels impossible rather than just difficult, please read this alongside support rather than as a solo prescription. There is no shame in that. Even goddesses have their councils.
You do not have to earn the right to tend yourself.
That sentence probably just activated something in you, either a quiet relief or a small internal argument. If it's the argument, that's worth noticing. The argument is the material.
We talk a lot in spiritual spaces about honoring the divine in others, in nature, in ritual and symbol and seasonal practice. We talk considerably less about honoring it in ourselves, not as a concept but as a daily, embodied, unglamorous practice.
This is that practice.
Not a morning routine. Not a productivity system dressed in spiritual language. A genuine checklist for the small acts of recognition that remind your nervous system, your body, your inner life: you are worth attending to. Something sacred lives here. Treat it accordingly.
How to Use This
Work through the list slowly, one item at a time. Check off what you have done today or this week. Notice, without judgment, what you have not done. The gaps are not failures. They are information about where you have been abandoning yourself, which is useful to know.
Some of these will land easily. Others may bring up resistance, grief, or a flat emotional nothing that is its own kind of signal. Go at whatever pace your body actually allows. If you find yourself moving through this list and feeling heavier rather than lighter, that is worth paying attention to rather than pushing through. Set it down and return when you have more ground under you. The list will wait.
Body
- I drank water today, more than once, before I was desperate for it.
- I ate something that actually nourished me, not just something convenient.
- I moved my body in a way that felt like care rather than punishment.
- I slept, or I rested, or I at least acknowledged that I am tired without immediately overriding it.
- I touched something that grounded me: soil, bark, an animal, the texture of something real.
- I went outside, even briefly. Even just to stand in the light for a moment.
- I noticed one physical sensation today without immediately trying to change it.
Mind
- I allowed myself to think something true that I usually keep quiet.
- I caught a story I was telling myself and asked whether it was actually accurate.
- I gave myself unstructured time, even five minutes, without filling it immediately.
- I read or listened to something that fed my mind rather than just occupied it.
- I let a question sit unanswered rather than forcing resolution.
- I noticed what I was avoiding today and named it, even if I didn't address it yet.
Emotion
- I let myself feel something without immediately analyzing it.
- I did not apologize for a feeling that didn't require an apology.
- I named my emotional state at least once today, even just to myself.
- I gave grief, frustration, or fear some room to exist rather than overriding it with productivity.
- I acknowledged something that was hard without immediately pivoting to gratitude.
This section is often where the most resistance lives. Emotions that have been deferred for a long time can surface with more force than expected when you finally give them space. If something comes up here that feels larger than the present moment, that is not a sign you are doing it wrong. It may be a sign that this particular feeling has been waiting a while. You do not have to process everything at once. If what surfaces feels genuinely overwhelming, please reach out to a therapist or trusted support person rather than carrying it alone.
Spirit
- I did one thing today for no reason except that it brought me pleasure.
- I made or tended something: a plant, a meal, a piece of writing, a sketch, a corner of a room.
- I spent time with a practice that connects me to something larger than my to-do list.
- I honored a commitment I made to myself, even a small one.
- I allowed myself to want something without immediately talking myself out of it.
- I spent time with beauty: music, light, a view, an object that means something to me.
- I acknowledged something I did well without immediately qualifying it.
Connection
- I was honest with someone today, even in a small way.
- I asked for something I needed rather than hoping someone would notice.
- I set or held a boundary, even internally, even imperfectly.
- I received care, a compliment, help, attention, without deflecting it entirely.
- I spent time with someone or something that genuinely restores me.
A Note on the Gaps
Look at what you didn't check.
Not with shame. With curiosity. The unchecked boxes are a map of where you have been treating yourself as the last priority, where the inner deity has been left unattended while you tended everything else.
Pick one. Just one. Not as a resolution or a goal, but as a single small act of recognition today.
The goddesses who are worth invoking are not honored with grand gestures alone. They are honored with consistency: the daily tending, the small offerings, the practice of showing up again and again to the altar of your own life and saying: this is worth my attention.
You are the altar. Tend accordingly.
When you are ready, truly ready, not perfectly ready, not fearlessly ready, begin with one box. That is enough.
