Family Constellation ๐ŸŒŒ

To constellate is to light a lantern in the past

Family Constellation is a therapeutic method developed by Bert Hellinger based on the idea that we carry within us not only the physical characteristics of our ancestors but also their traumas, pains, and emotional patterns.

Often, these patterns silently repeat in our lives:

Difficult relationships, financial blockages, emotional illnesses, or situations that seem like fate but may actually be echoes of previous stories.

This method shows us that we carry not only the physical traits of our ancestors but also their dreams, pains, and silences.

In practice, the constellation symbolically recreates family scenes. This can be done in groups, where people represent family members, or individually, using dolls or objects. In this symbolic spaceโ€”called by Hellinger the โ€œmorphogenetic fieldโ€โ€”hidden dynamics emerge, revealing secrets, exclusions, and disorders that call for healing.

When something in our life repeatsโ€”difficult relationships, blockages, patterns that seem like fateโ€”perhaps it is an echo of what was hidden in the past.

The Orders of Love, observed by Bert Hellinger, remind us that:

Everyone has the right to belong.

Hierarchy must be respected.

The balance between giving and receiving maintains the flow of love.

Hellinger observed that there are three fundamental laws, known as the Orders of Love:

Belonging: everyone has the right to be part of the family system, even those who were forgotten, rejected, or excluded.

Hierarchy: each person occupies a specific place. Parents come before children, and when this order is disrespected, imbalance arises.

Balance between giving and receiving: healthy relationships occur when there is fair exchange; when one gives too much and the other only receives, overload and ruptures happen.

When these laws are not respected, life tends to create repetitions until the patterns are recognized and integrated.

The benefits of Family Constellation are reported by many practitioners and include understanding repetitive patterns, healing family bonds, integrating exclusions, transforming relationships, and a sense of belonging. Often, when a theme is constellated, the effects reverberate throughout the family, as the energy field is collective.

In Brazil, the practice was included in 2018 in the National Program of Integrative and Complementary Practices of SUS, and it is also used in some family courts to mediate conflicts. However, it is considered a pseudoscience by the scientific community, as it lacks robust empirical evidence and is not recognized as an official therapy by psychology and medical councils. Thus, it should be seen as a complementary practice that can bring insights and support but does not replace medical or psychological treatments.

Constellating is like shining a lantern on the past: not to blame, but to understand. It is an act of courage before oneโ€™s own history. It is giving place to those who were forgotten, recognizing wounds that are not ours, and allowing life to flow again. When we look at our ancestors with respect, love, and awareness, we open paths for the present and future to be lighter and more whole.
