โจ The Fairy Tale Realization: We Don't Heal Alone
Lately, my favorite ritual for finding rest and comfort has been lighting my favorite incense, brewing a hot cup of tea, and unwinding with Disney movies on Disney+. There is something so healing about stepping into those classic stories. But as I watched Cinderella, Snow White, and so many classic fairytales recently, I noticed something much deeper beneath the animation.
Almost every princess starts her story carrying a heavy, unearned burden. They are put down, cast aside, or isolated by a mother figure or toxic maternal energy. They inherit rigid environments and heavy generational patterns that tell them to shrink, to hide their light, or to suffer in silence.
For a long time, society taught us that "choosing yourself" means standing on a mountain completely alone, putting up walls, and enduring everything on pure strength. But watching these movies with fresh eyes and reflecting on my own life, I realized the truth: choosing yourself was never meant to be a solo voyage.
Snow White didn't navigate the dark forest by herself; she opened her heart to the Seven Dwarfs. Cinderella didn't make it to the ball on willpower alone; she had Jaq, Gus, the little birds, the lizards, and a Fairy Godmother who recognized her intrinsic worth when her household tried to erase it. Even the strongest heroines succeed because they let a supportive team into their lives.
In fairytales, support shows up as magic wands and talking mice. In real life, our "magic wand" looks like walking through clinic doors hand-in-hand with someone you love.
Today, my husband and I walked into CAPS (Centro de Atenรงรฃo PsicossocialโBrazilโs public mental health care network) together to set up an appointment.
Breaking generational patterns, processing emotional fatigue, and prioritizing mental health isn't something you have to carry in secret. The kingdom my husband and I are building together isn't built on suffering in silence; itโs built on partnership, therapy, specialized care, and mutual encouragement. Healing our health and working through emotional burdens isn't a single-player mission. My husband stepping up for me, me stepping up for him, and us walking through those clinic doors together is how we write a brand-new legacy.
We are not bound to the toxic patterns passed down to us. We are the architects of our own wellnessโchoosing health, choosing help, and surrounding ourselves with the kingdom we deserve.
๐ธ 4 Ways to Care for Your Kingdom & Health Today
When you are doing the deep emotional work of rewriting generational stories and prioritizing your health, your nervous system needs extra tenderness. Here are four practical ways to show up for your healing like the queen of your own story:
-
Turn Downtime into a Healing Sanctuary ๐ตโจ
-
Make your relaxation intentional. When you light your incense and sip your tea, treat it as a physical boundary against stress. Tell yourself: "This moment is sacred." Use sensory rituals to signal to your nervous system that you are safe, supported, and allowed to rest.
-
Map Out Your "Fairy Godmother" Support Team ๐ญ๐
-
Take a piece of paper and write down every pillar supporting your health and emotional growth. Include your partner, your CAPS specialists, your therapist, trusted friends, soothing routines, and uplifting media. Looking at this list visually reminds you that asking for professional or personal help is a royal act of wisdom.
-
Practice the "Royal Pause" for Inherited Patterns ๐ฐ Breath & Awareness
-
Whenever old family dynamics, guilt, or anxiety creep back in, pause and place a hand over your heart. Ask: "Is this thought part of the legacy I was handed, or the health I am choosing?" If itโs an old pattern, acknowledge it gently and let it goโit doesn't belong in the kingdom you are building today.
-
Celebrate Every Small Door You Open ๐ช๐ฑ
-
Walking into a clinic and booking an appointment is a courageous health milestone. Never downplay the steps you take toward care. Celebrate making the appointment, having tough conversations, setting boundaries, or simply resting when your body asks for it. Every small action builds your long-term vitality.
๐โจ "Have courage and be kind. For where there is kindness, there is goodness. And where there is goodness, there is magic."
