Why you should be protecting your energy

The nuances of protection magic

As social beings, we are constantly exchanging energy — either with people, environments we visit or doing our daily tasks. Don’t get me wrong, this exchange is crucial for our well being, after all, stagnant energy also makes us feel icky, but considering that not every place or person we come around will make us positively energized, protection becomes something very handy in these situations.

The first thing we must understand is that protection is an energetic boundary. By protecting we are delineating what to let in and what to keep out of our personal (or physical) space, and how we protect is very diverse depending on what we are protecting ourselves from. If you are protecting yourself from unwelcome spirits, you might want to choose spirit traps or shields, while if you’re protecting your home from robberies you may want to pick invisibility spells. The options are almost infinite, and it all depends on your goal.

Alongside our magical spells to protect our energy, it’s great to reiterate that no spell will work if you don’t work it in the mundane. There’s no use in carrying a talisman if you keep talking about your personal plans to that person who is really jealous of you, or if you don’t eat a single fruit in weeks and never do exercises. Tending to your energy is far more than just lighting a candle and incense and enchanting something, it’s a constant choice on how to live your life. The energy of a witch is something very sacred, so take good care of it.

Another thing to consider is that there is in fact such a thing as too much protection, so when you decide to cast the spell, ask yourself: what is the size of the issue I’m addressing? What kind of measure will take care of this problem? You don’t need a full military fort to scare away a few crows, maybe you just need a scarecrow, see? In any way, unless you’re trying to banish something big and stubborn, your protections should look like a filter, not a barrier. You don’t want to keep everything out, you still want blessings to come in. With practice, you’ll learn to measure your efforts in any situation and see what works best for you.

Now, if you’re still a witchling, a lot of questions might have popped up, so here’s a little guide so you won’t get lost:

Ways of action

A protection spell may work in two different ways: it can be either projective or receptive. A projective protection may work as a repellent, while a receptive one will absorb the energy you don’t want so you won’t absorb it.

Types of protection

  • Shield: is pretty much what you imagine when protection comes to mind. It will cover yourself with a strong energy to repel anything sent to you. It’s very useful if you have someone sending you nasty vibes purposefully or not.
  • Mirrors: this one has a return to sender vibe, since it works like a shield, but it returns the energy to its sender and sometimes, it can make the sender see themselves in you.
  • Traps: usually made for spirits or baneful workings towards you, it will trap the energy inside it. Generally they are spell jars (since jars contain things).
  • Invisibility: no, it won’t make you literally invisible, but it’s a way to go unnoticed. Mind you that it’s not advisable to use this kind of protection all the time, since there are some places where you want people to notice you.
  • Landmines: this kind of working seems like a trap, but it’s programmed to warn you if something gets in. This may be the person doing a certain action if they try to hurt you, or maybe the spell itself will tell you, like if it breaks or turns into a weird color.
  • Anchor: this type of magic should be your absolute go-to when it comes to protection. Essentially, it’s a spell that will ground yourself or the energy of a place constantly, while returning to the earth any kind of energy you don’t want lingering around.

What to protect from

  • Illnesses
  • Robberies and assaults
  • Obsessive spirits (or living people)
  • Vengeful spirits
  • Malignant spirits or spirits sent to you by another practitioner
  • Any kind of energetic attacks (aka vampirization, the evil eye, envy and so on)
  • Energetic spies (which can be nosy people asking about you in tarot, people projecting to your home, etc.)
  • Any kind of spellwork you don’t want others to do to you.

Love this thank you. Had a discussion actually last night with a friend about energy whether bad energy can be removed and the concept of alchemy. Hypothetical… Law of Conservation of Energy: She said: That’s why I believe in alchemizing energy instead of cord cutting. Energy cannot be created or destroyed — it can only be transformed or transferred from one form to another.
