Summer Solstice-Litha๐โจ๐ฅ
Sunday the 21st, the new era begins
Article ยท 3 min read ยท ยท

We begin the season of checking whether what we planted months ago has borne fruit. The summer solstice marks the peak of light, when the Horned King stands in his full glory with all the energy and strength that characterizes this turn of the Wheel of the Year.
After the solstice, and though at first it's imperceptible, the days begin to shorten and both body and soul start preparing for autumn. But let's not get ahead of ourselvesโone step at a time.
This solstice coincides with the waxing moon in Virgo. We know that during this lunar phase, afternoon energy is more pronounced, making it a good time for activities during those hours. It's ideal for planning, organizing, and reflecting on what needs to be corrected and addressed, or on what feels negative to us. I don't recommend tackling difficult conversations during these days since we all tend to be more critical.
But there's something undeniable: Litha is for living, for rejoicing, for enjoying life, for celebrating that we're still alive and here for another sabbat. It's a time on the Wheel that invites joy, pleasure, intimacy, feeling whole, and reminding ourselves that we're born with nothing and will die with nothing. It's a time for community, for celebrating, for harvesting what was planted at Ostara and preparing ourselves as summer progresses for what we'll gather in autumn.
If there's one key element in Litha, it's fireโa symbol of purification. Just like on St. John's Eve (I have another post about this), you can burn in the fire everything you want to leave behind, whatever no longer serves you (always with caution), and lay the foundation for what you want to attract in this new season. Wear bright colors, decorate your altar with seasonal elementsโfruit, flowers, sea treasuresโand if you don't have an altar, create one! It's a perfect time to fill your sacred space with everything that inspires you to be happier. Prepare a delicious meal, invite your friends over that same day or the night before to share dinner and celebrate being together and, of course, take care of yourself, pamper yourself, and celebrate yourself because if you don't, no one else will. You are a wonderful person, you are valid, you are important, you are alive, you are here, you are beautiful!!
What am I doing this solstice?
โจGratitude Ritualโจ
Never forget the power of gratitude
Light a golden, yellow, or white candle. Write down on paper everything you feel grateful for. Read it aloud and keep it in a box or journal.
The idea is to acknowledge the abundance already present in your life.
๐ฅBurn away all negativity๐ฅ
Inspired by the ancient solstice bonfires:
Write down what you wish to leave behind (fears, worries, habits). Safely burn the paper in a candle, fireplace, or authorized bonfire.
Please be careful with fire. If you don't think weather conditions are right or if it could be dangerous, don't burn anything โ ๏ธ If you prefer not to burn it, you can also tear up the paper or bury it in a pot.
๐ธFlower Crown (for yourself or for your altar) ๐ฏ๏ธ
Lavender. Rosemary. Daisies. Wheat stalks. Mint.
The crown symbolizes the solar cycle and our union with nature.
๐ Purifying Bath ๐
If you have the opportunity, go to the sea during the night or the following morning and take a good dip. If you don't have the sea nearby, a salt bath in your own shower or tub will do.
In Andalusia, where I'm from, many people collect water with petals or leave a bowl out under the night sky.
๐ฟGathering aromatic herbs๐ฟ
This is the ideal time for this. You can even make a bath with these herbs, as I mentioned, and wash your face and hands after letting them steep under the night sky.
Rosemary. Spearmint. Lavender. Thyme. St. John's Wort (be careful if you're pregnant)
Some people dry them and save them to make aromatic sachets or infusions.
Let me know in the comments what you usually do for the solstice and tell me if you liked this ๐คโจ๐ฟ๐
