Portals of the Soul ๐“‚€

Portals of the Soul ๐“‚€

The pupil is the point of passage

Portals of the Soul ๐“‚€

The pupils are the portals through which the soul looks at the world

The pupilsย areย portals of the soul, regulators of the light that enters โ€” literally and symbolically. In the physical body, the pupil is a thermometer ofย attention and the autonomic nervous system, controlled by the balance between the sympathetic (alert) and parasympathetic (relaxation) systems.

Itย contracts or dilatesย according to the intensity of the light and the emotional or neurological state of the individual.

โ€ข Dilation (mydriasis): can occur due to excitement, fear, admiration, desire, altered states of consciousness, use of certain substances.

โ€ข Contraction (miosis): in states of deep calm, concentration or exposure to a lot of light.

Esoteric and Mystical Symbolism

๐–ฆน Symbol of the Unconscious

In analytical psychology (Jung), the dilated pupil is associated with unconscious stimuli โ€” passion, fear, desire, activated archetypes. A face with dilated pupils communicates truth without needing to speak.

๐–ฃ” Portals of the Soul

In the Hermetic, Gnostic, Shamanic and even in Christian mystical traditions, the pupils are seen asย portals between worlds. โ€œThe eyes are the window to the soulโ€ is not just poetry: it is doctrine in many esoteric schools.

The pupil is the crossing pointย โ€” where the external world enters and the internal world reveals itself.

In shamanic practices, looking directly into someone's pupils can lead to states of deep connection, as if we were opening a bridge from soul to soul.

๐“†™ The Portal of Consciousness

In the mystical tradition (from Plato to Hermeticism), the pupil symbolizes the crossing point between the inner and outer world, between the visible and the invisible. Observing a dilated or contracted pupil can reveal a lot about a person's inner state.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  ๐“…“ Indicator of Spiritual Presence

Widely open pupils (in situations without medical explanation) can indicate an altered state of consciousness, such as during spiritual channeling, trance, deep meditation or mystical ecstasy.

โžช In Kardecist mediumship and shamanic traditions, the gaze often โ€œgoes darkโ€ or โ€œdilatesโ€ when an entity approaches or during a trance, as the soul momentarily โ€œmoves awayโ€ from the body.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ๐“น Symbol of the Divine Eye

In ancient traditions, the pupil was seen as the all-seeing Eye of God:

In Egypt, it is represented by the Eye of Horus (the central point of the eye represents the pupil, the center of vision and spiritual perception).

ย ย ย  In Kabbalah, there is mention of the โ€œeyes of the Holy One, Blessed Be Heโ€, which penetrate everything, representing the pupil as the center of vision of the divine soul.

ย ย ย ย  โ˜ผ Connection with the Soul and Truth

When we love someone, or when we feel touched by the truth, the pupils dilate spontaneously. This is interpreted spiritually as the ย opening of the soul to that which resonates with the divine essence.

Mirrors of Truth

Hindu and Buddhist mystics teach that the pupil is the โ€œempty mirrorโ€, where there is no form, but where the true Being is reflected. It is in the pupil that the illusory identity dissolves and the โ€œseeing eyeโ€ is glimpsed โ€” the observing Self, the Atman.

ย ย ย ย  ๐Ÿœ‚ย In Magical Rituals

During rituals or invocations, theย change in the pupilsย is used as an indicator that something subtle is at work:

Dilation: indicates receptivity, openness to the invisible, ecstasy, contact with energies.

Sudden contraction: may indicate defense, the presence of invasive energy or spiritual resistance.

Eye-gazing rituals: used in tantric and esoteric schools to awaken the soul, access karmic memories, and perform deep intuitive readings.

Trained meditators report perceiving lights, shapes, entities, or memories through the pupils โ€” whether by looking at their own in a mirror or at the eyes of another initiate.

In some Egyptian traditions, it was believed that Ka (vital energy) could escape or be stolen through the pupils โ€” which is why they used eyeliner around their eyes as energetic protection.

ย ย ย  แฏพย In dreams, visions, and spiritual art

Seeing bright, dilated, or flaming pupils in visions or meditations can be interpreted as:

The presence of a spiritual guide;

Deep inner revelation

ย ย ย ย A moment of psychic clarity or intuitive awakening.

๐“‚€ Pupils and their visual archetypes

โžพ Pupils don't just let light in. They reveal the light that is already lit within.

That's why, when we look someone deep in the eyes, we see more than just the body: we see if the soul is lit, if there is pain, enchantment, truth or lies.

๐ฌบ And when we learn to look at our own pupils in the mirror, we enter the portal of the purest and most revealing self-knowledge.** ๐ฌบ

Mirror Meditation Practice: The Eye of the Void

Objective: access the inner portal of the soul, dissolve the ego, find the Deep Self.

Materials:

1 face mirror

1 white or violet candle

Crystal (I suggest amethyst, obsidian or clear quartz)

A glass of water or calming tea (chamomile, lavender)

Dark room or with minimal lighting

Step by step:

Firstย prepare the space: place the mirror at a height where you can only see your eyes, sitting or standing, with the candle next to it. Breathe deeply for 3 minutes with your eyes closed.

Secondย open the meditation/ritual with the phrase:

  • May what you see in me see what I am. May the soul see me with true eyes -

Then fix your gazeย only on your right pupil, without blinking or moving your head. Let your thoughts flow, without getting attached.

Stay for 7 to 11 minutes. Notice if there is:

  • Change in the shape of the face

  • Presence of lights or shadows around the eyes

  • Intense emotions or intuitive messages

  • Perception of โ€œsomeoneโ€ watching you from within

When finished close your eyes and rest your hands over your heart, whispering

  • I am the one who sees. I am the one who is seen. I am -

Then drink the water or tea and give thanks. Write down in your notebook what was revealed.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Tip: this practice can bring up strong emotions. If you see disturbing images, donโ€™t be afraid โ€” they are masks of the ego being dissolved.

Itโ€™s kind of crazy that I came across this today. I was making eye contact with myself in the mirror last night for the first time in a long time and it kind of creeped me out. Itโ€™s not something I do often, but now I want to try this exercise and see what comes up. Thank you!
