Dear seekers and travelers of light, it is with a heart overflowing with love and deep reverence that I share with you this teaching on the sacred art of meditation through mandalas.
On our spiritual journey, we often wonder how to quiet the whirlwind of the mind. It is precisely here that sacred geometry reaches out with loving guidance to lead us toward our inner temple, transforming visual form into a true path to peace. ๐ธโจ
What is a Mandala and why does it embrace us?
The word mandala comes from Sanskrit maแนแธala, carrying within its essence the energy of circle, center, and wholeness.
- Ancestral Roots: Present in traditions such as Tibetan Buddhism (representing spiritual maps) and in Carl Gustav Jung's psychology (associated with the integration of the psyche).
- Loving Simplicity: You don't need to know how to draw, master complex techniques, or understand esoteric symbols. You only need to learn how to see with the eyes of the heart.
- Visual Anchor: Its circular form guides the gaze toward the center, offering the scattered mind a safe and ordered place to rest.
๐๏ธ The Power of Returning in Meditation
During practice, one of the greatest challenges is realizing that the mind continues producing thoughts, memories, and plans.
๐ก Remember: Meditation was never about stopping thoughts from arising. The true practice lies in the compassionate art of returning.
- How it works: When you notice you've become distracted, gently bring your eyes back to the center of the mandala.
- No Failure: Distraction isn't a mistake; each time you choose to return to the image, you strengthen your presence.
- Stability: Over time, observation becomes natural and less dependent on external chaos.
๐จ The Free Dance of Colors
Colors in meditation don't need rigid or dogmatic meanings (like thinking blue must bring calm or red represents strength).
- Pure Experience: Simply observe the intensity, contrasts, luminosity, and gentle transition between tones.
- Without Rationalizing: Allow your gaze to perceive the whole in peace, without the exhausting need to translate every tiny detail into words.
๐ฟ How to Choose Your Mandala
To begin with ease, choose an image that allows you to clearly see the center and the patterns around it:
- ๐จ๏ธ Printed mandalas or drawings you create yourself.
- ๐ Images in books or digital creations.
- ๐๏ธ If using a symbol from a specific tradition, honor its origins by learning its story with care.
- ๐ Beginner's tip: Simpler designs make initial concentration easier.
๐ฏ๏ธ Step by Step: Your 5 to 15 Minute Practice
- Setting: Choose a quiet place and sit comfortably with your spine upright, but without tension.
- Positioning: Place the mandala in front of you, at eye level.
- Contemplation: Breathe naturally. Begin by observing the image as a whole, then allow your gaze to find the center.
- The Flow: Follow the lines and colors without analyzing. If the mind wanders, look, breathe, and return to the center.
- Integration: After a few minutes, slowly close your eyes and feel the image gently reverberate on your mental screen before slowly opening your eyes again.
โ๏ธ Meditating Through Drawing: Active Creation
The practice can also happen in reverse! You can build your own circular universe:
- ๐ Trace a free circle with love.
- ๐ Choose a center point and create shapes around it intuitively (lines, petals, or waves).
- ๐งโโ๏ธ Active Meditation: The repetitive movement of your hands calms the ego, uniting focus with physical gesture. Art becomes pure presence.
๐ Intention and Daily Practice
- With Intention: Before beginning, choose a simple word as your anchor (e.g., presence, serenity, courage, or embrace). Let it gently guide your spirit.
- In Daily Life: Set aside five little minutes before work, after an emotionally draining moment, or before sleep. The goal isn't an extraordinary mystical experience, but simply to inhabit the present.
โจ May each mandala be a loving reminder that peace blossoms whenever we choose to slow down and dwell in our sacred center.
โจ Light on your path โ๏ธ๏ธ
