How to Perform Energy Cleansings?
Both our home and ourselves
Article · 6 min read · ·

Cleansing and protecting both our homes and workplaces is essential in our daily lives. Without fail, when the new moons arrive, my house falls "victim" 😅 to a total reset where I not only clean physically but also perform small energy cleansing rituals.
We humans are beings full of energy—energy that we constantly radiate and, at times without firmly intending to, we radiate it in negative ways or make negative comments about something or someone without realizing the power this can have for ourselves and for the person it's directed toward.
Just as I always say that gratitude is very powerful and we're not aware of the positive magnitude it has, I also point out that doing the complete opposite has an equally enormous power over people—not only those we talk about but also those with whom we share space.
I imagine that on many occasions we've avoided being in the presence of people who are always criticizing, speaking ill of others, complaining, or protesting, since our energy gets drained, our mood changes for the worse, and we arrive home exhausted as if we'd just come out of a seven-day flu. This is no coincidence—it's the weight of words, it's that "dirt" that sticks to us.
Unfortunately, we can't always physically avoid these types of people and, even if we avoid them, if they speak negatively about us from a distance or in a toxic or envious way, that energy is directed toward us and we can't prevent it.
But fortunately, all of this has a solution, and that's what we're going to talk about today.
⚠️ Something I'd like to tell you that's important: this article is written with lots of love and without using AI. It's written so you can perform small rituals that bring wellness to your life and connect you in one way or another to a more Wiccan, magical routine rooted in ancient practices. However, these rituals don't solve health problems and aren't meant to replace medicine. They're aimed at protecting us from that negative energy or emotional drainage we sometimes feel. But if there's someone around you who's making you suffer emotionally, I suggest you communicate this to the appropriate specialists who can help you—you're not alone, I'm sending you a hug. 🤗
As I was saying, it's essential to undergo energy cleansings from time to time, both for ourselves and our homes.
First of all, there's nothing like a deep home cleaning—one of those that might take hours but that, by day's end, will leave us completely satisfied.
How and when do we do them?
Regarding which date is best, there's never a bad day for a cleansing, but if you want to align yourself a little more with the energy, I'd do it during new moons 🌑—they're perfect for beginnings and fresh starts or even for adopting new practices.
First of all, and as I've already said, clean your home as you normally would if you were having visitors or hosting some type of event. Put away dirty clothes, throw out all that stuff you've been wanting to toss for months, and get rid of what doesn't make you happy. Once you've done that initial purge, clean the floors with a splash of cleaning vinegar diluted in water and a bit of salt (in addition to your usual cleaner).
Secondly, and if your health allows it, once the house and floors are cleaned, I'd start by burning a bundle of sage or rue, moving clockwise. To do this, you should go to the room farthest from your home's main door, slowly rotate the bundle clockwise, emphasizing the doorway of that particular room, and from there go room by room until you reach the main door.
⚠️ If you're asthmatic, have babies or small children at home, or pets susceptible to suffering from this practice, don't do it. Do it when the little ones are at school, or if there's any minimal risk, don't do it—health comes above any practice, ritual, or belief. ⚠️
Another alternative if you can't use incense or bundles is to simply open all the windows in your house, let fresh air circulate, and imagine that a powerful energy flows through your house, reaching every corner, eliminating everything that spiritually weighs on us and is unnecessary.
Finally, when the physical and energetic cleansings are done, we move on to the most important thing—ourselves. We'll prepare a cleansing and ritual shower or bath for ourselves.
Here I'll let you use whatever resonates most with you. For example, if you have a bathtub, you can add some salt to the tub, immerse yourself in it, and bathe as you normally do.
If you want a slightly more ritualized bath, you can make a mixture of oils and herbs in a glass bottle that we'll then pour into the tub. You already know that oil should always be diluted in water and that we'll use about 3 drops per oil, and I don't recommend using more than 3 different types of oils.
For example, you can use essential oil of lavender, lemon, or rosemary—about 2-3 drops of each diluted in water, rose petals, lavender flower petals... your choice. Once the mixture is to your liking, you can use it in your regular bath. NEVER consume it—this is only for your bath water. 😄
If you don't have a bathtub or want to use water responsibly, you can make the mixture anyway and pour it over yourself from head to toe like a purifying stream of water.
After this, I'd take time to light a white candle to finish purifying the atmosphere and thus attract good energies to our home.
What do we do once the cleansing and ritual are complete?
Apart from keeping our house clean and aired out, we'll use palo santo to help keep bad energies and vibrations away. Additionally, there are stones and crystals perfect for keeping those unwanted energies at bay, such as amethyst, selenite, tourmaline, obsidian, and tiger's eye—perfect to be worn by us in the form of a stone, necklace, bracelet...
On a personal note, I always do these cleansings at the change of seasons and especially at Ostara, but exactly a year ago I moved into a house where a family with certain problems had lived—problems I won't mention because they belong to their private sphere. The first thing I did was enter the house with salt, vinegar, and oil. A friend recommended it to me, and the day they gave us the keys to our new home, those three elements came with me in my bag. I spent days doing cleansings, not only physical but also energetic. I felt that the energy of years remained trapped in those walls and that it didn't belong to my boyfriend and me. I felt the house was neglected and "sad"—it may seem crazy, but I felt the house was angry, hahaha. One morning, I woke up and noticed the energy was different—the light coming in was different, and I felt those walls were in a better mood. Even so, I still perform cleansings from time to time and give thanks for the home I have. I also do it when people who I know tend toward envy or toxic attitudes have to come to the house.
Thank you so much for reading—it's a great help. And remember: always surround yourself with people who bring peace to your life 🤍🌿🕯️
