A practice to organize your mind and create space for new perspectives

Air is in constant motion. We cannot hold it in our hands, but we sense its presence through breathing, through wind, and through the changes it creates around us. It passes through spaces, moves leaves, carries scents, and connects different places.

The Air element is associated with thought, communication, perception, and the ability to see a situation from different angles. While Water guided us through emotional movement, Air takes us to another territory: the mind.

When there's an excess of thoughts, perception can become fragmented. You try to solve everything at once, accumulate information, and lose the ability to distinguish what truly deserves your attention.

Working with the Air element doesn't mean completely emptying your mind. It means creating space so thoughts can organize themselves.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Breath as a point of presence

Breathing is one of the most direct ways to experience Air. It happens continuously, but we rarely pay attention to the movement of inhaling and exhaling. When we consciously direct our attention to this process, we create a pause between one thought and another.

This is why breathing can be part of a spiritual practice without needing complex techniques. The very act of noticing air entering and leaving the body already creates a shift in rhythm.

For this portal, we'll combine breath and smoke, using the scent of plants as part of the experience.

๐ŸŒฟ The ritual herb

We'll use dried rosemary.

Rosemary is associated with protection, vitality, memory, and clarity. In practice, its scent also creates a striking sensory presence, helping to mark the moment dedicated to the ritual. You can use a small sprig of dried rosemary or an herb suitable for smudging.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Ritual of Breath and Smoke

You will need:

  • 1 small sprig of dried rosemary or a small amount of herb suitable for smudging;
  • 1 heat-resistant container;
  • matches or a lighter;
  • a well-ventilated space.

Place the container on a safe surface and light the rosemary.

Let the flame touch the herb for a few seconds and then extinguish it, allowing only the smoke to remain. You don't need to produce a large amount of smoke.

Sit comfortably and watch the scent spreading through the space.

Now take five slow breaths.

Inhale through your nose.

Exhale gently.

On the inhale, notice the air entering.

On the exhale, relax your body.

Continue observing the smoke and your breath for a few minutes. When you notice your mind has wandered, simply return to the movement of air. When finished, say:

"I organize my thoughts.

I recognize what deserves my attention.

My mind finds clarity.

I release confusion and open space for new perspectives.

May my words, thoughts, and choices move with awareness."

Let the smoke finish naturally or safely extinguish the herb. Open a window and allow air to circulate through the space.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ The meaning of movement

Smoke reveals something we normally cannot see: air is always in motion.

This movement can also be brought into mental life. An idea can change when it receives new information. A conversation can open a different perspective. A decision can become clearer when we stop trying to resolve it in the same instant. Clarity doesn't mean having all the answers. It means being able to perceive better what's before us.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ What this third portal teaches

Fire taught us to act. Water taught us to release. Air teaches us to perceive.

Before making a decision, we need to be able to see clearly. Before speaking, we need to recognize what we truly want to communicate. Before changing direction, we need to understand where we are.

Air doesn't remain still. It circulates, moves, and creates passage.

And when we allow our mind to also find movement, new perspectives can emerge.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Day 3 of 7 โ€” I perceive.

I breathe, organize my thoughts, and open space to see with clarity. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธโœจ
