Welcome to Pluto’s Retrograde

Welcome to Pluto’s Retrograde

May 6 - October 22, 2026

Content Note: This article discusses themes of transformation, loss, and the shedding of identity. If you're in a season where those topics feel too large or too raw, please read this alongside support rather than as a solo piece.

We talk about Pluto like it's a small, far-off thing. Pluto, the distant planet. Pluto, the one that got reclassified. But here's what actually happens when Pluto turns retrograde: it brings the underworld closer. Not to scare you. To clean house.

Pluto retrograde begins May 6 and runs through October 22 in five months of the slowest, most thorough excavation you might experience all year. If Pluto direct is about being forced to confront what you've been avoiding, Pluto retrograde is about the permission to finally go looking for it yourself. You're not being ambushed. You're choosing to dig.

This is different from other retrogrades. Mercury retrograde scrambles your messages. Venus retrograde tangles your relationships. Pluto retrograde asks you to burn down the thing you built on a lie and honestly consider whether you want to rebuild it at all.

I have Pluto conjunct my moon (practically on top of one another) in Libra, in the 5th house. 🫣

I woke up with a strong urge to better understand my chart, and a funny instinct that I have been ignoring what Pluto meant. I started asking an AI app about Pluto and realized it went retrograde today. Can’t be a coincidence.

Maybe as strange I felt the presence of my ancestors very strongly. Starting yesterday actually. Like they demanded I stop and acknowledge and pray with them. I acknowledge them almost daily anyway, but this was stronger and came from them, not me. In the last couple of weeks I came to a realization, what my next creative project will be, and it is about American history intertwined with my own ancestry. I am going to be developing the story and then pitch it for funding in the next six months, I have no work lined up after June 30. so this feels right on time.
