Venus Enters Leo: The Permission to Want Seen

There’s a certain shame most of us carry quietly of wanting to be seen. We dress it up. We call it ambition, or creative expression, or community building. We perform not-caring about whether anyone notices, because caring feels like need, and need feels like weakness, and weakness is the thing we’ve been told to hide since approximately birth. So we make things and share them and then hold very still and pretend we’re not watching to see if anyone responds. We want recognition and simultaneously feel ridiculous for wanting it.

Leo gets a reputation it half-deserves. Loud, theatrical, and in love with the spotlight. All of that’s true, but it’s the surface truth, the performance of Leo rather than its center.

The center of Leo is something more tender, and that’s the need to matter. To be genuinely witnessed by someone, to make something and have it land—really land, not just as content consumed and scrolled past but as something that reached a person and moved them. Leo is chasing proof that they are real, that they exist, and that their presence in the world means something.

That’s the most human thing imaginable.

Venus in Leo takes this further. Venus governs love, desire, beauty, and the things we value. When it moves through Leo, what rises to the surface isn’t the quiet domestic attentiveness of Venus in Cancer, where we just came from. What rises is want. Visible, declared, slightly embarrassing want. The desire to be chosen and known. The longing to make something beautiful and have someone stand in front of it and say I see what you did there.

You’re allowed to want that, and this transit is here to tell you so.

In mythology, Leo is the lion. Not the predator exactly, but the sovereign. The creature who doesn’t need to hunt with stealth because it doesn’t hide what it is. The lion walks through tall grass and the tall grass knows a lion is walking through it.

There’s something instructive in the willingness to take up space without apology and to let what you are be visible without performing a softer, safer, more agreeable version of it first.

Most of us spend enormous energy making ourselves more manageable, more palatable, and more likely to be welcomed. We’ve learned which parts of us make people comfortable and which parts make them shift in their seats, and we’ve become fluent in the management of ourselves. We lead with the acceptable version and keep the rest in reserve, just in case.

Venus in Leo asks: what would it cost you to stop doing that, just for a moment, just enough to find out what happens when you let the real thing be seen?

Here’s where it gets complicated, because Leo’s shadow isn’t an absence of authenticity, but a substitute for it. When the genuine need to be witnessed feels too risky, too tender, or too exposing, Leo learns to perform instead. Performance is safe. Performance can be calibrated. You can take a bow for the character you’re playing and keep the actual self tucked backstage. Nobody can reject what they haven’t actually seen.

This is worth sitting with during this transit: are you creating and expressing and showing up, or are you performing and do you know the difference in your own body?

Performance has a particular texture. It’s a little too polished. It watches itself. There’s a gap between the thing being shown and the person doing the showing. It can be brilliant and technically accomplished and still land hollow, because the person behind it is present only as the curator of an image rather than as a living, feeling human being.

Authentic expression is messier. It has edges. It doesn’t know quite how it’ll be received. It costs something to put out there, and you can feel that cost in the seconds before you share it, that small contraction in the chest that says this is real and that means it can be rejected.

Venus in Leo wants the real thing. It’s not interested in your highlight reel.

On June 17, Venus makes an exact opposition to Pluto retrograde in Aquarius. This is the edge of this transit, the place where the conversation deepens.

Pluto in Aquarius has been doing collective excavation on power structures, systems, and who gets to belong. In opposition to Venus in Leo, it turns that question personal. Who actually has authority over your sense of your own worth? Where did that authority come from, and is it still operative in your life, quietly running beneath the surface, shaping what you believe you’re allowed to want?

Some of us handed that authority over long ago to a parent, a partner, a culture, or a particular failure that lodged in us and became a verdict. We made someone else’s assessment of our value the truth of our value, and we’ve been carrying that arrangement ever since.

Venus opposing Pluto doesn’t dismantle it gently. It surfaces it. You might find yourself in a moment of wanting something, whether it’s recognition, love, or just creative acknowledgment, and discover, underneath the wanting, a voice that says you don’t deserve it, or it’s too much to ask, or who do you think you are.

This transit isn’t about becoming louder, or bolder, or more visible in ways that feel performative and hollow. It’s about honesty. The quiet, specific honesty of acknowledging what you actually want.

• Do you want to be seen in your work? Say so, at least to yourself.
• Do you want someone to love you without you having to earn it every day? That’s a real want. It’s allowed.
• Do you have something you’ve made and kept private, because sharing it would mean revealing something true about yourself, and that feels like too much risk? Venus in Leo is asking you to reconsider.

The transit lasts until July 9. That’s nearly a month of the planet of love moving through the sign of genuine, unhedged self-expression. You don’t have to do anything dramatic with it., but it’s worth noticing where you’ve been managing yourself down, making yourself smaller, and keeping the real thing safely offstage.

Leo isn’t asking you to perform. Leo is asking you to show up. There’s a difference, and somewhere in you, you know what it is.

2. What do you want to be witnessed for, and genuinely seen? Are you letting anyone actually see it?
3. Trace a belief you hold about what you’re allowed to want. Where did that belief come from? Is it yours, or did you inherit it?
4. Think about someone whose recognition matters more to you than makes sense. What would it mean to move that authority back into yourself?
5. What would you make, share, or say if you trusted that being real was worth the risk of being rejected?

Venus in Leo is the permission most of us didn’t get early enough:

“Your wanting is not a problem to be solved. Your desire to be witnessed isn’t vanity or weakness or too much. It’s a signal that you’re still alive and still invested in your own life, still interested in whether your presence here counts for something.”

The transit asks you to stop hiding behind the performance and find out what happens when the actual you takes up the actual space. That’s not a small ask, but it’s a real one, and it’s worth more than the safety of being perpetually unseen.
