The Green Light That Isn't a Permission Slip

From March 22 to May 5, all planets are direct. No retrogrades. No apparent backward spin.

A note before we begin: This piece moves through themes of avoidance, fear of failure, and the discomfort of honest self-examination. It is not crisis content, but it is direct. If you are in a tender or destabilized place right now, read at your own pace, or save this for when you have a steadier foundation. The window we're discussing lasts until May 5. There is no rush to do this work today.

Everyone online is vibrating right now.

From March 22 to May 5, all planets are direct. No retrogrades. No apparent backward spin. The astrology community is calling it a cosmic green light, a rare window of forward momentum, the moment you've been waiting for to finally act.

And they're not wrong, exactly. The window is real. The symbolism is coherent. When no planets are in retrograde, the invitation is genuine: move. Build. Begin.

But here's the thing nobody says in the breathless posts:

A green light is not a permission slip. It's a signal that the road is clear. You still have to drive.

What the Window Actually Gives You

Retrograde periods are traditionally associated with review, revision, and delay. Things feel stuck. Communication goes sideways. Plans stall.

When all planets are direct, that ambient drag lifts. Not every obstacle disappears. Not your finances, your nervous system, or the real structural challenges in your life. But the resistance clears.

Think of it like driving with a headwind that suddenly stops. The road is the same. Your car is the same. Your destination is the same. But it's easier to maintain speed now.

One nuance worth knowing: Mercury just stationed direct March 15, and it won't clear its post-retrograde shadow until April 9. That means communication and planning may still carry some fog early in this window. The green light is real. The GPS is still recalibrating. You can move and expect the occasional reroute.

The Question the Green Light Exposes

Here's where it gets interesting.

Many of us have been holding our lives in a kind of suspended animation. Waiting until Mercury is direct. Waiting until the eclipses pass. Waiting until things calm down.

And now, things have calmed down.

So. What are you going to do?

If that question produces a flutter of something uncomfortable, pay attention to that. Because some of what we've been calling "waiting for the right conditions" is legitimate pacing. And some of it is avoidance dressed in celestial clothing.

Avoidance doesn't feel like fear. It usually feels like wisdom. It says: not yet, there's more I need to figure out first. It sounds reasonable. But discernment knows what it's waiting for. Avoidance just waits.

This window is an invitation to tell the difference.

The List That's Been Waiting

What is on your "when things settle down" list?

Not your to-do list. Your held list. The things you've been quietly deferring because the conditions weren't right.

Creative work you've been circling. A conversation you've needed to have. A decision you've been over-researching. A version of yourself you've been building up to inhabiting.

The green light doesn't make these things easier. It just removes the argument that the sky was working against you.

That's not a small thing. If you tried now and it didn't work, that would just be information. But if you tried now, it might also work. This window is the chance to find out.

A Reflection Practice for the Direct Window

The prompts below are honest and direct. Take them at your own pace. There's no pressure to work through all of them at once, and if something surfaces that feels too large to hold alone, please bring it to a therapist or someone you trust rather than pushing through by yourself. This kind of self-examination is good work. It doesn't have to be solo work.

Reflect: The waiting list

Write out everything you've been holding in that "when things settle" space. Don't edit or justify. Just make the list. What's actually there?

Reflect: The honest sorting

For each item: is this something you're waiting to begin, or something you're afraid to begin? Neither is wrong. You just have to be honest about which it is. If you genuinely can't tell, that uncertainty is worth sitting with too.

Reflect: The one thing

If you only acted on one thing this window, what would it be? Not what you should choose. What you actually want to choose.

Reflect: Naming the resistance

For that one thing: what has the resistance actually been? Name it specifically, not "I wasn't ready" but what "not ready" actually meant. Fear of failure. Fear of visibility. Fear it won't match what's in your head. Fear that moving will change something you can't change back.

You don't have to fix the fear today. You just have to name it. That's enough to start.

Reflect: The smallest true step

What is the smallest action that would constitute actually moving this week? Not preparing to move. Moving. What does that look like, specifically?

On Mercury's Shadow

Mercury clears its shadow April 9. The first part of this window may still feel a little murky in the communication and planning department.

This isn't a reason to wait. It's permission to expect some fog while still moving. Plans may shift. Something may need revision. That's fine. Move anyway, and adjust as you go.

The worst use of this window is spending the first part waiting for it to feel fully active, and then spending the second part bracing for Pluto retrograde on May 5.

The window is now.

The Road Is Clear

A green light doesn't fill your gas tank. It doesn't tell you where you're going. It just means that right now, if you press the accelerator, nothing is stopping you from moving.

You know what you've been holding. You know what's been waiting.

When you're ready, truly ready, not perfectly ready, not fearlessly ready: press the accelerator.

If this found you at the right moment, that’s not an accident. I am glad it did.
