Shadow work through the lens of Human Design.

Shadow work through the lens of Human Design.

Human Design offers the map and shadow work provides the courage to walk the path.

Shadow work is the sacred act of turning inward—to meet, embrace, love and integrate the disowned parts of ourselves. It’s about peeling back the layers of conditioning, shame, and survival strategies that have built up over time so we can return to the truth of who we are.

In my work, I often guide clients through this journey as it’s inextricably linked with the deconditioning process through Human Design; a deeply validating system that reminds us of our original blueprint. Human Design shows us not only how we are meant to move through the world, but also where we are most susceptible to losing ourselves to external influence. When we combine shadow work with Human Design, we’re not just facing the dark—we’re coming home to the light within us.

Looking at shadow work, whenever a trigger or 'reaction' arises, i'll always have my clients feel into these three questions, and journal if its correct for you:

Where has that [emotion/behaviour] been done to me?

Where have I done that [emotion/behaviour] to myself?

and, the one that everyone doesn't want to see...

Where have I done that [emotion/behaviour] to someone else?

What Is the Shadow in Human Design?

The shadow in Human Design shows up in the places we’ve been conditioned to act out-of-alignment with our natural energy.

These can be rooted in:

- Type-based behaviors (e.g., a Projector trying to keep up with Generator energy)

- Open or undefined centers absorbing others’ energy or emotions

- Not-Self Themes like frustration, anger, or bitterness

These shadows aren’t flaws, they are your greatest gifts. They are projections from others formed in environments from people that didn’t know how how to love themselves. Your shadows are YOUR guiding light and the beginnings of profound healing and realignment.

Is it possible to identify with multiple design types?

You will have a design type, but depending on your hanging gates, when a transit completes that channel, you can take on the behaviours of other types for the duration of the transit. The deconditioning process equips you with those tools to see what’s in your design of self and the not-self. 💓
