Pluto Retrograde: Ways to Work Beyond the Obvious
Article · 5 min read ·
162 days to reflect, let go, and strengthen your inner core

Hello! So, from May 6 to October 16, we’ll be moving through the energies of Pluto Retrograde. And I wanted to share some ideas on how to use this time in a productive way.
Some ways to make Pluto Retrograde your ally will probably feel familiar to you, but I’ve also tried to highlight less obvious areas of its influence — the ones worth paying attention to during these 162 days of a deep “cleaning” of your inner storage rooms, basements, and hidden corners — all those things you may have been putting off “for later.”
Well, that “later” — or “someday” — has arrived.
Diving into esotericism: shadow work and karma
To begin with, it’s worth noting that Pluto is an outer planet. In its direct motion, it tends to influence entire generations.
So, if in your natal chart Pluto does not form aspects with personal planets (the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Venus) or house cusps, and is not retrograde itself, you may experience the full range of its energies less strongly throughout life. That’s exactly why the period of Pluto Retrograde is a powerful time to consciously connect with its deep, influential energy and use it in your favor.
From May to October, Pluto Retrograde can be especially supportive of working with esotericism, Tarot, and the mystical. This is a great time to use these less common tools to work through your fears, limiting beliefs, and to explore and accept your shadow side.
As this is a generational planet, it will be especially beneficial to work with ancestral scenarios, family secrets, and karmic stories. If the same unfavorable pattern repeats in your lineage, Pluto Retrograde offers an excellent period to make what is hidden visible, work through it, and make space in your life for something new and aligned with your highest good.
Bringing order to finances
Even as we focus on spirituality, everyday life still brings our attention back to the material side.
Pluto Retrograde is a great time to review your sources of income, investments, and expenses. During this period, it’s worth being especially mindful and avoiding rushed decisions when it comes to completely new, large-scale investment projects. It’s also better to be cautious with taking on new loans, as there may be a risk of delays in these processes until October 2026, when Pluto turns direct again.
At the same time, this is an excellent period to:
- close old debts, get rid of ineffective assets, or step away from questionable financial projects;
- revisit forgotten sources of income or connections that once brought profit — look at what used to work from a new, more creative perspective through the lens of Pluto in Aquarius;
- analyze where your money consistently goes and reconsider your spending habits.
Honoring the memory of loved ones and working with the theme of death
Pluto is also associated with the theme of death, so in a very literal sense, taking time to care for the resting places of loved ones or to work through your own fears around death from May to October is more than appropriate.
For those who are going through a deep sense of loss right now, I sincerely wish you the strength to cope and navigate your emotions. Pluto Retrograde is also about inner strength, willpower, and the core that helps us hold ourselves through difficult experiences.
Embracing your sexuality
Yes, we so often talk about Pluto when it comes to big themes like power and control, but we don’t always remember that our natural sexuality is also a powerful form of “currency” — and therefore, a form of power.
What I mean is this: when a person feels shame around this topic, lacks confidence, and constantly seeks approval from others, they become especially vulnerable — whether to falling into abusive relationships or to conforming to social standards of “ideal” beauty (including plastic surgery not based on physical or emotional well-being, but driven by imposed expectations).
Psychology, esotericism, medicine, art — choose the path that resonates with you when working with this theme.
One possible approach is working with the more explicit Tarot deck Manara. I’ve mentioned this deck before in one of my articles.
Stepping Out of Hidden Power Games in Relationships
Pluto isn’t only about external power — it’s also about subtle, almost invisible forms of control within everyday relationships.
Sometimes this doesn’t show up directly, but through expectations, resentment, silence, or attempts to influence another person through guilt or pressure.
This is a good time to notice:
— where you may be trying to control a situation or another person;
— where, on the contrary, you allow others to control you;
— which patterns of interaction no longer work, yet keep repeating.
Pluto doesn’t destroy without purpose — it removes what is no longer alive. And if you allow yourself honesty in this process, you can move toward a more mature and grounded level of relationships.
Detoxing Your Information Space and Attention
We often think that Pluto’s influence shows up only through events or emotions. But in the era of Pluto in Aquarius, it’s just as important to pay attention to what fills your mind every day.
Social media, news, endless streams of information — these are also forms of influence, and even control. If this goes unnoticed, it’s easy to gradually lose connection with your own thoughts and inner ощущения.
The period of Pluto Retrograde is a good time to take an honest look at:
— where your attention is going;
— which thoughts and reactions aren’t truly yours;
— what kind of content triggers anxiety, comparison, or внутреннее напряжение.
During these months, it can be helpful to reduce unnecessary information noise, unfollow what no longer resonates, and reclaim control over your attention — and, with it, your inner state.
Pluto Retrograde isn’t about quick changes or external results.
It’s about deep honesty with yourself — in places you don’t always have the courage to look at in the rush of everyday life.
These 162 days are like an invitation to pause, reflect, let go, and gradually create space for something new. Not through pressure, but through awareness. Not through struggle, but through inner transformation.
And maybe, right now, what once felt like “later” is finally finding its time.
