Understanding The Major Arcana

Each card is connected to the previous one and describes the life path, scenario and spiritual lessons of each person, each soul. This scenario, "The Hero's Journey", is not designed or invented by anyone specifically. It underlies many myths, fairy tales and legends of different peoples. The scenario is that the human-soul hero follows from the point of origin, the point of no-knowledge through various life lessons and their conscious passage to the final point, the Absolute, the Unitotality.

The plot of this life path is symbolically reflected in the Tarot cards. They represent our shared experience as human beings and portray behaviors and reactions that are recognizable across cultures. These are the archetypes, a reflection of the collective unconscious.

When we perceive the cards not in isolation from each other, but with an understanding of what Arcana was before it and which will be the next one, we better understand the nature, reason and essence of our request, as well as our own life path.

So, the goal of any life path is to gain integrity through understanding and learning certain lessons during this path.

The movement begins from the first Arcana at number 0, the Fool, the Hero, symbolizing our "inner child", curious, open to everything new, not burdened with bounds or stereotypes. The 21 and the last Arcana, the "World" symbolizes conceptual completeness, enlightenment, acquired wisdom and understanding of one's destiny.

The cards from I to IV following after the Fool symbolize the parents of heaven and earth.

The Magician and the Priestess personify two opposites: The Magician is an active and creative principle, which is aimed at creation, interference in the normal course of things; The Priestess is a passive, perceiving principle that adapts to reality and does not interfere in the course of events. No path is right. It is important to find a balance between them.

Further, the Empress card means an inexhaustible source from which everything new is born. And the Emperor is the structure, order, clarity and reality, which give shape to what was born at the previous stage.

Next, the hero will learn different lessons (up to Arcana XI), the purpose of which is to raise him to a higher level, teach to interact with the world and find his own Self after overcoming obstacles.

For example, the Lovers card teaches the hero to make a choice, the Justice card symbolizes the ability to be responsible for your choice and be objective, balanced.

Starting from Arcana XI, we are going through lessons on overcoming barriers, gaining new perspectives and horizons. So, for example, the card of Strength teaches us to accept our life with joy, to embrace it and not to run away from the bad by turning a blind eye to some of the events. The Death card represents our transformation, the breaking down of barriers and spiritual growth after the passed test, if only we managed not to wallow in our fear. The Arcana Devil is an acquaintance with our shadow, an understanding of our mistakes. It shows the task to overcome our internal contradictions without going to the advantage of the shadow side.

And, finally, the cards from XIX to XXI reflect the purpose of the entire journey. The Arcana Sun shows calmness, rebirth, the Judgment card represents healing, mental and physical health. And, finally, World represents a feeling of deep satisfaction from the path traveled and the achievement of one's goal.

Most don't reach the goal failing to cope with the lessons from the Universe, and it is impossible to jump from the first stage to the last one. But for sure, each of us has the potential to walk the path that 22 cards represent.

You can associate your situation with a particular card by reading the meanings of the major Arcana. This will give you the opportunity to take a closer look at your request, to understand at what stage of development it is. An analysis of the previous and subsequent card will allow you to find out what actions led you to this situation and what further prospects are possible.
