Litha (Southern hemisphere)

The feast of Litha is celebrated on December 21, along with the summer solstice. It is the day of profuse light and life, in which the power of sunlight has reached its full bloom. This reminds us, though, that from this day onward, nights will gradually be growing stronger. Litha is a celebration of the triumph of God and Goddess. The power of the Sun culminates today, personified in the image of God. Next to him is Goddess, a generous mother who gives the best she has to her children. We celebrate their sacred union. Many Wiccans believe that Litha features a battle between King Oak and King Holly, with the latter succeeding the former. King Holly will have his rule until the next Imbolc. When getting ready for the celebration, it is important to remember that the Sun is the symbol of luxury and affluence. It is important to decorate the altar vividly, so do not spare flowers or candles. Colors that are in harmony with the holiday are yellow, green, red and blue. Remember about fragrances: in the summer you can make your own floral incense and enjoy it during the shortest and most festive night of the year. Have fun during the celebration: prance and play like children. Gather herbs and weave wreaths. The sun will soon begin to wane, so build a fire immediately after sunset to give the sun some more strength. Sit near the fire and indulge in all kinds of astrological calculations and natal chart readings or just admire the stars. All sorts of fruits and vegetables, as well as herbal teas will make perfect treats. At sunrise say prayers to God and Goddess and make a wish whenever you have a moment in complete silence. The air itself is filled with magic on this day!
