On March 21, 2023, we will happily celebrate the Day of Autumnal Equinox. The Equinox is a celestial event that marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the start of fall in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa. It occurs when the Sun crosses the celestial equator, an imaginary line in the sky located directly above the Earth's equator, and the day is equal in length to the night.
The Autumnal Equinox is also the time of transition, as the warm and energetic days of summer give way to the cooler and more introspective days of autumn. This change can bring about feelings of sadness, introspection, and a sense of letting go, but it can also be the time of growth and transformation. There are many ways to celebrate and honor the Equinox. Here are a few suggestions:
Write down on a piece of paper what you are ready to let go, such as negative emotions, experiences, or patterns of behavior. Once you have written it down, burn the paper as a symbolic act of release.
Write down your gratitude list, and express appreciation for the people in your life, either through verbal expressions or thoughtful gestures. Set an intention to focus on gratitude each morning and continue to reflect on it throughout the day.
Take time to reflect on the balance and harmony in your life. Consider what needs to be let go, what needs to be embraced, and what steps you can take to bring balance to your life. This year the day of the equinox coincides with the New Moon, so the magical power of the day is doubled. Take some time to reflect on the summer, write down your goals for the autumn and steps to take to achieve them.
Connecting with nature can have a profound impact on physical and mental health, as well as overall well-being. Spend time outdoors and connect with the natural world. Take a walk in a nearby park or forest and pay close attention to the changes in the environment around you. Observe the changing leaves, the chill in the air, and the signs of the approaching autumn.
Practice yoga or meditation to connect with the changing energy of the season and find inner balance. We've prepared meditations for you that will help you let go of the past, practice gratitude, and just restore your mental health. And also, we're attaching a series of yoga exercises called "Greetings to the Sun" and "Greetings to the Moon" - since day is now equal to night, you can do both on the day of the equinox.
