The Moon Is Your Mirror
I remember the first time I had a full emotional experience with the Moon. It was a warm summer night, the first evening of a full moon, and something inside me had already begun to shift.

At the time, I was just beginning my journey beyond the religious path I’d grown up in. I was scared—not just of the unknown, but of the possibility there could be spiritual consequences that would come from stepping outside that path. I had been conditioned to believe that if I followed anything other than the “one true way,” I’d suffer in the life after this one.
But despite the fear, something else had begun reaching for me. I kept seeing synchronicities I couldn’t explain. Not ones that made me afraid—ones that pulled me closer to a presence I knew, without question, had my best interest at heart. A presence rooted in love.
That night, I came across an online full moon ceremony hosted by a spiritual group. I didn’t know what to expect, but my heart whispered, Say yes. And so I did.
I grabbed a blanket, a small jar candle, and my tablet, and stepped into my backyard beneath the glow of the full moon.
The woman hosting the ceremony welcomed everyone gently. She spoke about the energy of the full moon, its power to illuminate, to release. Then she brought out a large glass jar—almost like a decanter—filled with water. Around her were flowers and herbs she had gathered from her land in Northern California. She told us that as she dropped the petals into the water, we should imagine all that we were ready to let go of falling in with them. To let our emotions sink into Luna, and afterward she would return the water to Gaia.
She turned on soft music. I focused on the screen, on the flowers drifting into the water. And then it happened.
I began to cry.
Alone in my backyard, a grown man in his mid-thirties, lit only by candlelight and moonlight—I couldn’t stop the tears. Not tears of sadness. Tears of freedom. Of recognition. Of relief.
I’m finally free. This can’t be wrong. This is right. This is real. This is love. And I haven’t turned back since.
Not long after that night, I downloaded the MoonX app. I began reading the articles, diving deep into all the insight it had to offer. That’s when everything started to click.
Once I learned how to read my birth chart, I realized what worked best for me: tracking not just what zodiac sign the Moon is in, but also what house it’s moving through in my personal chart. That’s when it got real.
I started noticing patterns. Emotional shifts. Days when I felt deeply creative, or painfully sensitive, or driven to clean up my life—and each of those days lined up with where Luna was moving in my chart.
Over time, I began to really understand the zodiac and the houses—not just as abstract ideas, but as living energies moving through me. And the more I tracked the Moon’s path, the more I learned how to adapt my internal world to better support my external one.
Each house holds a feeling. When the Moon moves through your chart, it doesn’t just pass over space—it passes over memory, identity, longing, joy, fear. Each house brings its own terrain. Some days the Moon invites you to heal. Other days, it asks you to expand, speak, rest, or release.
I’ve learned to stop asking “Why am I like this today?” and start asking “What is the Moon trying to show me?”
This practice doesn’t give me control over my emotions—but it gives me context. And context gives me power.
That said, it’s not something to cling to like a crutch.
This isn’t about blaming your chart every time you’re feeling off. It’s not an excuse to stay stuck or reactive. It’s a tool—one that can help you move with grace, growth, and self-compassion.
Think of it like a check engine light in your car. When it comes on, you don’t throw up your hands and say, “Well, that’s it, the car’s doomed.” No—you take it in. You check the oil. You make an adjustment so it can keep running smoothly. That’s what lunar tracking does for your soul.
It helps you tend to yourself with reverence, not judgment. With curiosity, not control.
And over time, it shows you that your sensitivity isn’t a weakness. It’s a rhythm. One that’s worthy of respect.
You don’t need a full moon ceremony to begin. Sometimes, it starts with a notebook, a moment of quiet, and a willingness to feel what’s true.
Here’s a simple way to begin tracking your lunar cycle:
* Look up what zodiac sign and house the Moon is currently in for you (MoonX makes this easy).
* Jot down how you’re feeling—emotionally, mentally, spiritually.
* Notice patterns over time. What thoughts or moods come up when the Moon is in your 2nd house? Your 8th? Your 12th?
Doing this has changed my life.
Not just in theory—literally. This practice has helped keep me alive.
I’m in a healing journey. Self discovering like we all are. Like most people, I’ve had many trials that came with pain and heartache. I was also a substance abuser for a long time, and I’ll tell you this: Moon tracking has been one of the few practices that kept me anchored. That helped me come back to myself when everything in me wanted to leave. My life is far from perfect. I still have my vices and deal with them accordingly when they crop up. Sometimes I fail and that’s ok. We fall, we learn, we get back up, we move forward and keep trying to be the best version of ourselves we can be.
And that’s all I’ll say. Because some things don’t need to be explained. They just need to be experienced, so they can be felt.
You don’t have to walk through this alone.
When you work with the Moon—especially during emotionally charged transits—you may notice a sense of presence. Like someone or something is walking with you. This could be an inner guide, an ancestor, a divine being, or simply a symbolic force that rises through your imagination.
There’s no rulebook for connecting with support. Sometimes you light a candle. Sometimes you speak aloud. Sometimes you close your eyes and feel a warmth that comes from nowhere—but also from everywhere.
If you’re not sure where to begin, I’ve written another article called “Calling the Gods from the Pages” that explores how to connect with supportive archetypes and energies. It might help you recognize the quiet companions that have been with you all along. The Moon opens the door. You choose who walks in.
You are not broken.
If your emotions feel like too much, you’re not unstable. If your moods shift more often than you can explain, you’re not weak. If you cry one day and feel empowered the next, you’re not inconsistent.
You’re lunar.
You are made of water and rhythm and memory. The Moon is not just above you—she is within you. This practice isn’t about perfection. It’s about permission. It’s about learning how to ride the tides instead of being swept away. You are not broken. You are cyclical. You are sacred.
You are lunar.
