Human Hormones
During my studies of naturopathy in Germany, I understood how every activity in our body is highly influenced by hormones. Losing or gaining weight, happiness and sadness, storing or burning energy.

I asked myself how can I live a life where my hormonal system supports me to be happy and balanced.
First of all every hormone has its purpose and is for any occasion very important for the human body to survive. So in my point of view there are no bad hormones. But I understood the huge effect any hormone can have on me when it is out of balance. I started to experiment with myself, bearing in mind how certain hormones react to a stimulus physiologically.
I found out some really basic behaviours, that seem to influence my hormones:
• Blood sugar levels: At some point I connected feeling angry and hungry to the amount of sugar i ate. The Book Glucose Revolution from Jessie Inchauspé gathered a lot of studies about how sugar influences us and was a revelation to me.
• Sleeptime: Hormones follow a circadian rhythm. Cortisol begins to rise between 3-5am, according to most medical books. Also I learned that the production of melatonin depends on light exposure. So I assumed that it would make a difference when I wake up early and go to bed around sunset. And it did. I feel a lot more energetic during the day and fall asleep way faster in the evening. It needed patience and dedication to change my own rhythm. But today I would not want it any other way.
• Activity: I always felt better, happier and calmer after exercising. There are a lot of studies that examine the relationship between exercise and hormones. Often, when I am dealing with a challenge in my life, exercising gives me a lot more clarity and inspiration on that subject.
These areas really help me maintain a feeling of wellbeing in my body and my mind and furthermore I can connect bad feelings often to bad sleep, bad food or sitting on a chair for too long.
But the most important subject for me is:
• Emotional conditioning: I learned that the boss of the whole hormonal system is the limbic system in the brain, as it influences the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus can activate most of our hormonal expression. So what influences the limbic system? The limbic system deals with our emotions and our impulsive behavior.
For me, it all comes down to the question: is a certain situation good or bad for me?
I think the answer is completely subjective, depending on our past experiences. In my point of view, it is never the event itself that causes pain or happiness but the value that I give this event and the consequences I think this will have for me. So, already a certain thought could lead to the release of certain hormones that drive my behaviour. This attitude to life could permantely influence my body chemistry. And I think it is even stronger than changing your lifestyle. So if you are doing everything to live healthy but your symptoms are staying and you won’t lose weight for example, this could be a reason why. To change my perception of the world I am exploring my subconscious by meditation, energy work and psychology. And it is a wild journey. Sometimes really scary. But everything that I can identify can be changed or solved and that brought me so much more of a good feeling so far.
✨ Sleep: I wake up at 5am and go to bed at 8-9pm
✨ Cold shower: I just end my shower with cold water for 30-60secs. It gives me a huge energy boost in the morning.
✨ Diet: I avoid glucose spikes at all costs. Especially in the morning, which makes a huge difference according to Jessie Inchauspé better known as @glucosegoddes. I eat 4-5 meals a day. No snacks and leave 2-3 hours between each meal. I also avoid caffeine, sugar, gluten and diary to keep the chance of inflammation in the body low.
✨ Supplements: After trying a lot of supplements I would say that for me Zinc, Magnesium, Potassium, Vitamin B, D and Omega 3 are very essential. This topic is huge and so dynamic. Also very controversiol. Here, I just list everything that is working for me.
✨ Mindfulness: Meditation, breath work and exercise really helps to keep me balanced.
✨ Soulwork: whenever something is stressing me, there is a reason or belief why I react to it that way. In any case, when something is touching me emotionally it is important to me. I do the work to reflect and explore myself. Why is that specific event causing stress in my system? By identifying the underlying belief,I can change it. Full self-empowerment comes with full self responsibility.
I deeply know that if we as humans become more aware of our hormones and how they drive us, we can experience more peace and happiness within ourselves each and every day. What that means for your world only you can imagine.
I love you all, if you have questions, let me know in the comments.
