Dancing with the Cycle
You are cyclical—honor your inner rhythm 🌙
The menstrual cycle is more than a biological process; it is an inner dance, a sacred flow that guides us through the month. With each phase, our body and energy shift, revealing a deeper wisdom within. By attuning to these natural rhythms, we can embrace movement as a tool for connection, healing, and self-discovery. In this article, we explore how to align conscious movement with each stage of the cycle, allowing us to flow with our essence rather than resist it.

For years, I experienced my menstrual cycle as something that simply “happened” in my body. I didn’t pay much attention to it beyond the physical symptoms that arrived each month. But when I began to deepen my connection with my body, my emotions, and my energy, I realized that my cycle was not just a biological process—it was an inner dance that influenced my movement, my expression, and the way I inhabited my body.
Each phase of the cycle carries its own rhythm, its own language, and its own way of manifesting within us. Learning to move in harmony with each stage allowed me to stop fighting against my energy and start flowing with it.
Women are not linear; we are cyclical. We move in phases, just like nature. And when we stop resisting this flow and begin to truly listen to our bodies, everything changes. Instead of forcing ourselves to always perform the same way, we can learn to move with our inner rhythm, honoring what we need in each moment.
Our body is always speaking to us. Instead of forcing it to follow a linear rhythm, we can learn to listen and support its natural transformation month after month.
The menstrual cycle unfolds in four phases, each carrying a distinct energy. By understanding them, we can use movement and dance as tools to deepen our inner connection and bring balance to our emotions.
🔹 Menstrual Phase (Rest and Introspection)
This is the winter of the cycle. Our body calls for rest, retreat, and inner connection. Energy is at its lowest, making this the perfect time to release, renew, and surrender to stillness. Gentle, grounding movements—such as slow stretching, breathwork, or intuitive swaying—allow us to honor this sacred pause and prepare for the renewal ahead.
⭐ Try This:
• Gently sway to the rhythm of soft, soothing music.
• Use undulating hip movements to release tension in the pelvic area.
• Let your breath guide each movement, feeling your body surrender with every exhale.
• You can also lie down and simply breathe consciously, allowing your body to fully relax.
🔹 Follicular Phase (Rebirth and Activation)
This is the spring of the cycle. Energy begins to rise and awaken. It is a time of expansion, creativity, and openness. The body feels lighter and more receptive, ready to move with greater fluidity and exploration. Playful and energizing movements—such as dynamic stretching, flowing dance, or expressive movement—can help harness this fresh, uplifting energy.
⭐ Try This:
• Dance with broader, freer movements.
• Explore dynamic yet fluid sequences that make you feel renewed and empowered.
• Use dance as a way to activate your life force energy.
• This is also a great time to explore new techniques or work on coordination.
🔹 Ovulatory Phase (Expansion and Expression)
This is the summer of the cycle. It marks the peak of energy—a time when we feel most expressive, magnetic, and deeply connected to our sensual power. Movement during this phase can be expansive, intentional, and fully embodied.
⭐ Try This:
• Dance with sensual, flowing movements that connect you to your femininity.
• Let pleasure guide your movement.
• Use dance as a way to express your vitality and creativity.
• Dancing to immersive or tribal music can help deepen this connection.
🔹 Luteal Phase (Introspection and Transformation)
This is the autumn of the cycle. Energy begins to decline, inviting a period of introspection, emotional purification, and preparation for the next menstrual phase. Movement during this time can be more grounded and profound, helping us process and release what no longer serves us.
⭐ Try This:
• Dance with heavier, rooted movements, feeling the weight of your body and its deep connection to the earth.
• Use movement as a tool to release trapped emotions, allowing yourself to express whatever arises without judgment.
• Incorporate pauses in your dance to tune into your body and listen to its messages.
• Close your eyes and simply flow with the music, surrendering to your inner rhythm.
Our cycle is not something to resist, but rather something to understand. Just as nature moves through its seasons, our body flows through its phases—each with its own energy and needs. Tuning into these natural shifts and adapting our movement accordingly allows us to live in deeper harmony with ourselves.
Recognizing the rhythms of our body and aligning our movement with them is an act of self-awareness and self-love. Instead of fighting against our cycle, we can learn to honor it, allowing our energy to be expressed fully in each of its phases.
For a long time, I tried to push myself to always be at 100%, without realizing that my energy naturally fluctuates—and that this is not only okay, but essential. Now, I understand that my body is my guide, and the key is not to fight against my phases but to dance with them.
Dancing with our cycle means allowing ourselves to live in harmony with who we are. Each phase has its own rhythm, its own truth. When we learn to move in sync with our inner pulse, we stop resisting our nature and begin to flow with it. Our cycle is a gift of connection and wisdom, and movement is the key that unlocks its power.
I invite you to experience this connection, to move with awareness, and to discover how dance can be a powerful ally on your journey of transformation. This is not just about dancing—it’s about inhabiting your body from a place of depth, authenticity, and freedom.
💕 I love you, beautiful souls.
